O'Toole related a story about him and Peter Finch going on a long term bender on the Tonight Show and it was hilarious to listen to him tell the story.
The gist of the story was he and Finch had been drinking very heavily and headed back to Finch's home in the countryside. On the way there they stopped at a small pub that was nearing closing time and continued to drink until the owner said he was closing and they had to leave.
They didn't want to leave and wrote him a check to buy the bar, proceeded to drink longer and somehow managed to make it to Finch's house. They woke the next day and remembered they gave the bar owner a sizeable check and ran back there to see if he had cashed it------he hadn't and he returned it to them, which they promptly tore up.
A few years pass and they befriended the bar owner and they heard he had died so they decided to go to his funeral. They saw a bunch of people at a graveside and went there to offer their condolences and found out they were at the wrong grave.
He was a great storyteller and made it so proper with the British Accent.
