The series does a great job of making sure newbies understand the basics of the movie to enjoy this series.
But you’ll be shorting yourself if you don’t watch. While the movie may feel aged seeing it for the first time now, Mr Miyagi is honestly an iconic film character that is timeless. Every single scene he is in delivers as strongly today as it did 35 years ago, and you gain more in the series if you can feel the magic he created back then that still resonates with Daniel.
Johnny is obviously key to see as well in order to fully understand the arc and the rivalry that drives the series.
I would recommend watching the original Karate Kid, and the opening scene of Part 2 before watching S1. Stop Part 2 after the opening scene though.
Then watch Part 3 before watching Season 2.
After Season 2, watch Part 2 to prepare for Season 3.
It’s a bit out of order but that is how the films impact the seasons.

Really? Hmm I saw in the previews at the end a Japanese guy showed up. I do not remember the 2nd one very well at all tho. I know he goes to Japan and found a new rival who was really good, banzai trees, they fought at the end.

Makes the end of s2 even sadder RIP to that man
How does it possibly count as turning yourself in when u were tricked at a rehab u thought u were seeing your mom at? And he ran for a second. Oh hell let that go but still thats not real life at all
That kid Hawk turned douche super fast once he learned how to fight lol
Still a fun character that stirs shite up
