EDIT: My apologies. You are correct. I was thinking of someone else. He did not actually lose any battles in India but was severely wounded.

Maximus had superior resources, soldiers, and faced inferior competition. Maximus also had the full support of the royalty from his nation.
Wallace had to put together a militia consisting of basically Scottish farmers against the elite fighting force at the time while trying to also position a beta to become king and had divided support across all of Scotland
In terms of individual fighting ability Maximus
In terms of handling stress and being out manned Wallace
If you are asking who I would rather fight for...Maximus. hard enough to fight wars against 1 enemy and Wallace has a knack for making many.
