Maybe we'll get more insightful documentaries.

and halo, RoP, and WoT.

i'm a fantasy/scifi Gen X nerd that's lived long enough to see a lot of stuff i grew up on get made (LotR, MCU pre Endgame, Dune), etc. and then ruined (see above) by woke millennials and Gen Z thinking they were better than the source material.

They couldn’t have picked a worse time to do this. People don’t care about tv like they used to. They’ll just watch more Tik Tok.

i'd love to see a in depth look at the rise and fall of Quibi. Quibi came out right as tiktok arose but then also got murdered by Covid. The whole idea was watch a 7 minute episode in your uber, train, or subway ride and then Covid took away everybody's commute.

there were some fun titles in there, but it got rocked by releasing 2 weeks after we all got told to SiP.

FWIW, Quibi's entire library was bought by and available on RokuTV.

Yet you comment on the movie/tv board because the truth is you watch it…so there is that. If you didn’t watch television why would you even come here

Brother this will blow your mind but the movies and tv they have made for the last 100 years still actually exist

A Guild just makes it sound like they're all sitting in their parents' basement, shirt covered in Cheetos dust, playing some video games for hours on end.

Y’all do realize what happened last time right? Prepare for even worse movies and TV all because apparently Netflix was the lone hold out

You sure? All these people hire these days are women and people of color. 100% chance there are good writers out there who are being overlooked and are willing to work.

I've heard chatter that most productions won't move forward with non guild writers simply because of the associated costs of their productions. The Guild in theory brings some level of quality guarantee that the financiers believe. So just picking up non Guild writers, even if they are talented and capable, isn't really an option for large productions.

I guess we've found the reason for garbage TV and movies. Keep hiring from a pool of garbage writers and all you'll get is garbage content.

It’s funny how many here will suck the cocks of the studios to own the writers, not realizing it’s the studios responsible for all the shite they complain about

Maybe if the writers had stood up to the studios and refused to write shitty remakes which nobody asked for in order to check some diversity boxes, I might have some sympathy for them.

But they didn't. They sold their souls to their corporate masters, not my fault they sold cheap.

I probably have 50 series already in my queues and over 100 movies. I can hold out a few years.

Same

But a lot of that is total garbage

I would be curious what shows and movies will be affected by this, including upcoming shows

I do know last time this happened reality tv benefited greatly, which fricking sucks

Thoughts and prayers for all the crew members who are at the mercy of all these unions

The shittiest of them all being SAG, which protects the top 1% of actors, studios, and prodcos while shitting on the rest.

Unlike some of the other unions, WGA writers are relatively underpaid, frequently exploited, and are worth far above many other union members.

The longer the strike lasts, the earlier we get Winds of Winter, because the fat man won't have any more film distractions.

He’s putting any further work on that project on hold in a gesture of solidarity.
