1. Dunkirk
2. Wind River
3. The Big Sick
4. Blade Runner 2049
5. Baby Driver
A large gap would separate those from the next few - Get Out, IT, Logan
Will be seeing Three Billboards tomorrow and am expecting it to be high on this list

shape of water and ladybird will prob round out the top 5 for me
rest of the year has been trash
So movies like Dunkirk and Blade Runner are considered “trash”???
I get someone having high standards, but I can’t stand when something is either great or trash and no in between

Dunkirk wasn't enjoyable cinema. Metallica concert front row and no character development at all. Nobody to remotely care about.
Even Mel Gibson's nihlistic brutal Apocolypto - you cared about the main character.
This movie treats the soldiers as empty coats on a beach. With their tanks and their bombs and their guns and their bombs...zombie.
They weren't zombies. They were real people. Tell their stories.

agreed 100%. i just couldn't give a frick, dont care how visually spectacular it was (score was overrated too, typical Zimmer fluff). the apologists will tell you that they're supposed to be just coats on a beach, but that doesn't work in cinema.

I agree that the score is overrated, and I'm a huge Zimmer fan, but I never found myself not caring about any of the characters. However I hope to have a new #1 on my list after seeing Three Billboards
