Mr. Misunderstood is an amazing album, genre be damned.

Yeah it really is. The backstory behind it is pretty cool also. On my phone and can't find the info but basically he dropped that album without any prior hype, and wrote it all in like 30 days.

Also "Round Here Buzz" is great and "Mixed Drinks About Feelings" might be the best song on entire album though it probably won't be released as a single.

This. He's a bro country insider who desperately tries to act like an outsider.

Then the comparison doesn't make any sense. DAC wasn't accepted as an "outlaw" but rather a poser. At least by the real "outlaws" at the time. And he was bitter about it and write songs about. So I'd say Church is much more like DAC then he is Jason Aldean.

He sings like he was "turned out" in prison and just released. He's got a bitchy, nasally, pitched voice.

He's a real "Outlaw" with his new furniture line, I tell ya...

That one song I heard was definitely bro country. I looked it up and the song was Drink In My Hand. Here are the lyrics. Just terrible.

Bro Country has been around since the 60's if that is your definition.

Ya, this is so good and so different

Now I lay me down to cheat
On the woman I love so
And if I die between these sheets
I pray to God she'll never know

She's the best thing in this life
Why she worships the ground that he walks on
She waits up for him at night and worries
Until he's safely home
And she always believes his stories about working overtime
And in 20 years beside him cheatins never crossed her mind

Aw but it crossed his
Early last summer
In a person of a neighbor that she still calls her friend
And with a little push from drinkin one too many one night in the fall he gave in
And now he wishes he could stop himself
But theres no easy way
So he lays down with his lover
And silently he prays

Now I lay me down to cheat
On the woman I love so
And if I die between these sheets
I pray to God she'll never know

In his heart and soul
He knew he was playing a game he could never win
But ya know, forbidden fruit is sweet
Why it was sweet enough to make him risk it all again
And now he's givin up on lookin for a way
To fight the feeling
So he prays this simple pray
And hope it makes it past the hotel ceiling

Now I lay me down to cheat
On the woman I love so
And if I die between these sheets
I pray to God she'll never know

You have just added the lyrics to one of the best all time cheating songs ever. I really don't believe these are analogous to singing about speakers going "boom boom", catfish tugging on a line, dropping tailgates, jacked up trucks, or drinking shine.

These pussies these days don't sing about drinking and cheating, they sing about crying about when their "baby" leaves them because they are big dripping wet count.

And if you don't think the "outlaws" respected DAC, here ya go...

David Allan Coe

I don’t listen to him or know much about him, BUT
I was at a music festival once. Walking from tent to tent, I heard a country band absolutely killing it. Super tight band.
I asked someone else standing toward the back and they said it was Eric Church. I was impressed.
That’s probably the most I ever heard of his music.

Several years ago a buddy gave me Eric Church tickets and Dwight Yoakam was opening for him. I watched Dwight and left.
