Touring company passed through BR last night. I went and it was outstanding. All of the vocalists were very good, esp. the two female leads.
If you get a chance, it’s worth a few hours of your time. Also, it’s not just songs by Carole King and Gerry Goffin. Lots of songs by team of Barry Mann & Cindy Weill.

If this show comes to Memphis, I might have to go see it. Great songwriter and often overlooked.

Growing up in the late 60s-early 70s, the record charts were dominated by King.

I was there last night. It was a great show. They did a great job telling the story, listing the songs written for other artists, etc.
There was 1 funny thing that only a musician catches... When she sings "It's too late" at the bar, as a new song, the House / Studio band backs her up... They all jump in at a key change in the song... I thought that was funny. I doubt many caught that.

I’m a musician and I didn’t catch that. Damn.
My fave part was when she was describing her new house in LA: “It’s in Laurel Canyon, lots of window seats, and I told the girls we could get a cat!”

The opening verse is in Am...works around some Dm/G/F, modulates up a half step to B flat for the chorus, which is exactly when the band jumped in.. on the new song...

Wow. I would have liked to have seen that show. Carole was in her prime when I was in my formative years. Always enjoyed her music.

Gerry Goffin (as great a lyricist as she was a composer) might be overlooked, but Carole King was a star

So it in New York and it was a great show. You forget about some of these songs. Felt the same way about Jersey Boys

wife went to Houston last weekend with her friends and saw the CK musical. She said it was a great production and very educational.
