Live at Coachella 2005
"Bela Lugosi's Dead" was recorded live in the studio in a single take during a six-hour session at Beck Studios in Wellingborough on January 26, 1979. It was the first thing they recorded together, six weeks after the band had formed. All four band members are credited as writers of the song: vocalist Peter Murphy, guitarist Daniel Ash, drummer Kevin Haskinsand bassist David J(as David Haskins).
I was too young to appreciate the release of most of Early Bauhaus music. But I definitely appreciated Murphys solo career and also Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets

I had tickets to finally see them a year & a half ago & they cancelled the entire tour due some rehab or health issue with Peter Murphy. I was not happy.

How does time even work now? To me, that Bauhaus picture and song still comes across as cool af. Were people in 1979 likewise still amazed by music and singers from 1934?

A true Bauhaus classic.
Saw Love and Rockets once, and adore their recordings. Hot Trip To Heaven makes my brain happy and is a fantastic road trip album. Lift is brilliant as well.
Peter Murphy...bought his CD and saw him on his Dust tour in New Orleans. I want my money back for both...absolute garbage. His solo song Cuts You Up is a brilliant pop song however.

I saw them at Cruel World just before that happened and I consider myself very fortunate. They put on an amazing show and all sounded incredible, especially Peter Murphy. “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” was the highlight of the set for me.

Ive seen Peter Murphy do Bauhaus songs a couple of times and had tix to see the original Bauhaus lineup but it was killed by COVID, they rescheduled and before they played here, Peter Murphy had a melt down and quit the tour. I did get to see Love & Rockets again just a couple of months ago and they were awesome.

Fun fact. I have the This Rimy River coffee table art book personally signed by Vaughn Oliver/V23 of 4AD fame from the 1994 show in L.A.
It's one of my most prized 4AD collectibles.
A smart music board member might even figure out where my user name came from.

As a huge Peter Murphy fan, I can concur with this. Dust was just terrible and a WTF is this? I was so pumped for that one too after Cascade.
Unshattered got back on track but not great. Ninth(2011) is a great one.

This thread's had me on a Peter Murphy/Bauhaus kick. According to the band Wiki, Murphy never had vocal lessons and didn't even think he could sing. How do you go from that to a song like "The Prince and Old Lady Shade"
