I don't know about the best (that is subjective), but for a guy who can play lights out, I am partial to Robert Cray--he can sing the blues I tell ya.

I was coming here to post this. I actually think he's a better singer than player.

Hard to rate blues artists as singers. So not sure if you're asking to judge based on their voice or not. Maybe easier for female artists. But just straight out blues artists for me it's:
J.J. Cale
Robert Cray
Johnny Winter
John Lee Hooker
B.B. King

I'm a Howlin' Wolf loyalist. That growl is just pure sex.

There are a lot of great ones, but for me no one could squeeze the pain out of a song better than Otis Redding. Hard to believe he died at 26.
Beat me to Otis.
Been on a Freddie King tear lately too. One hell of a voice to go with playing.
Hard living though. Dropped dead at 45 I think?
Too lazy to look it up. What got Otis? Plane crash?

Your definition of Blues is..?
To me, A guy from The 70s named Dobie Gray, I always have thought that he had the perfect voice.
The context of this song and video, are a reminder of absolute change in our society and political winds.
It seemed like he was enjoying doing a song that addressed history, and just giving his flavor to it, and it was beautiful. I would listen to this over and over, still do sometimes.
