So, I was in The Heights in Houston yesterday around lunch time. I saw a tour bus behind a theater and walked over to check out the bus out of curiosity. It was Brian Jonestown Massacre. They were hanging outside smoking cigarettes while stage was being set up. They played a sold out show there last night. I’ve now been checking out their music and I love it, similar to The Cure.

I never heard of this band until yesterday. They’ve been around for 20 -+ years. Am I just that far out the current music scene? Sucks, because I would have loved to see them live.

Any Brian Jonestown Massacre fans here?

I’ve been listening to them since I got home and googled them. Great fricking music. This makes me hopeful for the state of music. I’m going to start doing some homework about shows coming to town. I probably could have got a ticket last night if I have simply tried.

I saw them Friday night in Dallas. I like them but they dick around between every song so the show has no flow. Back in the day, they would get in fights on stage and with fans but Anton has gotten old now. There is a documentary called DIG that is about them and the Dandy Warhol's and has a lot of old footage.

In my 24 hours of research, I’ve seen this referenced many times. I’ll have to search and watch it tonight.

I like them even more now.

Anton

I’m about 99% sure I walked right past him yesterday but had no idea who he was.

I am a fan of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Anton Newcombe would kick your arse if he heard you say his band sounded like The Cure.

They've been around since atleast the mid 90s but better late than never.

It was a beautiful train wreck of a show in Houston last night. I knew once they stopped during the first song that Anton was gonna be extra cranky. I'm used to his shtick by now but was surprised by all the heckling from the crowd. Getting to hear Anemone basically twice was great, but I wish they played more classic songs. Loved the venue, and Mercury Rev was a great opener.

I’m seeing them Friday.

And I’ve never heard them compared The Cure, so that’s a new one.

Dig was interesting if not only for the Joel Gion-Spokesman for the Revolution deal. A freakin tambourine player.

To follow up here a bit, I went back that Heights again last night and passed the same theater. Checked the upcoming shows and grabbed 2 tickets for Mudhoney and The Meat Puppets next week.

I need to refresh my memory of Mud Honey, been a long time since I even thought of that band.

I’m bump my own thread, I don’t care.

So, my date fell through but I went to the Meat Puppets and Mudhoney concert last night. I went alone and that’s probably the first time I’ve ever done that.

Had a blast. The Heights Theater is an awesome place to see a band, real close and intimate. Both bands played a great set, biggest hits of the night were definitely the songs Nirvana covered on Unplugged. Great way to spend a night in and enjoy this city. I forgot how much I enjoyed concerts. It really put me in a good place for a few hours to put life aside.

Music is the best therapy! This may not seem like much but to leave my j great job in the city, then going have diner alone, then enjoying 2 bands from my youth, really put me in a good place today.

I need to realize that more.

Some belong to strangers, some to folks you know…

They played it near the end of the set. They said it was their first show in 2.5 years and they played like it. They really jammed last night.
