There's a lot of bands in this thread that are pretty damn appropriately rated. That fact that all of planet earth doesn't love somebody as much as you do doesn't make them underrated.

I like Conor Oberst alot, but I get why others don't as well.

I don't believe that many people "shite" on the Beatles on here. Lots of folks like me appreciate their place in music, just don't get excited by a lot of their individual songs.

Or the Grateful Dead.

Idk if either of those are actually underrated, but around people I know, they are

Old 97s

They've been putting out great music for 15+ years. I know they have a decent following and I'm sure there are some fans here but theyve never really caught on with the mainstream

Lots of great mentions in this thread:

Built to spill
Old crow
Dbt
Grateful dead
Hold steady
Replacements

Black crowes have been underrated since the 1990s. After their early success they put out a string of mediocre albums but their last few since Luther Dickinson joined have been by far their best and they've gotten very little credit

I always liked The Mavericks,a big part of Nashville's kamikaze mission was not embracing cool BANDS like them. They're fresh on my mind because they finally have a new record coming out.

I love DBT a whole bunch, but they are appropriately rated. Metacritic is a more well-rounded version of rotten tomatoes for all kinds of media, and here's their recap of the last decade's est reviewed bands:

LINK

Drive by Truckers were the 7th best reviewed band of the decade with an average album score of 83/100. I love them and think they are one of the best currently working bands... but they ain't underrated.
