The issue is the dearth of quality new acts as well as a lack of infrastructure supporting them. It’s almost like a memo went out in 2005 that said that if you’re not already a rock star that no new applications would be accepted.
In the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s, current Rock acts had no problems filling arenas. Today, not so much without a washed up headliner.
The landscape of the music industry completely changed. For all intents and purposes, streaming music killed the radio star. Those acts were huge because everyone was listening to the same shite...basically force-feeding music down the collective throat all to make money for the labels. Take Journey....with hindsight, why in the frick were they as popular as they were? They're horrible. They were a product of radio.
A bad like War on Drugs should be huge but they're still playing theaters. They lack the blowhorn of 60's-90's radio to get everyone listening to their shite on a daily basis.

Catchy melodies, romantic lyrics that appealed to girls, and a frontman with serious vocal talent and crazy range all hitting the scene at a time when many of the bands from the early 70’s had broken up or were declining in popularity. Why wouldn’t Journey be popular? It’s not really my cup of tea, but I can see the appeal.
Also, the blow horn does still exist. There’s a lot of current artists still selling out arenas, just not rock n roll ones.

I was an absolute fan and staunch defender of this band until that day. Boy that was a brutally rough performance to watch

No one can pretend like this song doesn’t slap.
I don't have to pretend. Their music is 1000% unoriginal trash.

Heck, Rush first got popular in the U.S. when Americans in Detroit heard “Working Man” over Canadian radio stations and started calling in requesting it, thinking it was a new Zeppelin track.

Post what you consider original music

Half of the original Led Zeppelin tunes were old blues songs they redid in their own style. GVF is new songs done in someone else’s style. Not trying to make an argument, just think it’s an interesting parallel.
