Best value: behringer
Best quality: strymon

The reality is there’s infinite options for different pedals and effects and finding what speaks to you is a long journey. I just recommend trying stuff. Behringer is great for testing out different kinds of effects because they’re so cheap.

Nobody builds delays or reverbs better than strymon. Strymon also has one of the best amp/cab sim pedals around with the Iridium. However, there are a few great options for cab sims in a similar price range.

I have three Catalinbread pedals from when Howard Gee was working for them. They were putting out awesome pedals during that period. My favorite by far is the Belle Epoch, which is a decent approximation of an Echoplex. Walrus and OBNE also put out some unique quality pedals IMO.

Boss and MXR are my go to pedal brands. I find Boss to be the most reliable pedal and best sounding. I can usually get whatever sound I want and/or need from a Boss pedal. I don't have any problem buying a Boss or MXR used pedal, either. I don't feel worried about bringing a Boss or an MXR pedal to any type of gig where something would happen to it.

I will add this, though: I bought a Keely Caverns Reverb/delay pedal that I absolutely love. It is well made. I gave it to my son to use for his shoegazing music that he makes. He likes it, too. I also use the JHS 3 series delay and Chorus pedal. $99 and gives a great sound.

I got real mad when my boss super chorus crapped out on me until I realized that it was from the mid 80’s and had been being used and abused for 40 years.

On the flip side, my boss looper’s power supply going bad was unacceptable. That one only lasted like 3 years.

I just got a super chorus delivered to me today. Gonna try it out tonight on my acoustic board.

Surprised I haven’t seen Electroharmonix (EHX) mentioned. Good stuff.

I do have a spare board with a EXH Soul Food going into an EXH OD Glove. It sounds awesome.

I have an ehx glove on my board, too.

I also used to use a pitchfork a lot, but I can’t figure out if the pedal is broken or the expressor or something because it isn’t working with an expression pedal plugged in anymore.

Sun Face Fuzz
TS9 Silver Mod

*on wait list for King of Tone.
