They just seem to churn out solidly crafted melancholic songs like a fine assembly line. Almost can't find a single bad song in their entire discography.

I never trust any band that could easily have a pluralized name but doesn't

So "Kiss" should have been " Kisses"?
" Three Dog Night" would be " 3 Dog's Night" (sounds kinky)
" The Who" would be "The Hoosiers"?

I definitely feel The Beach Boys should have changed their name to "Beach" (no article), as they considered in the late '60s

Considering things, I read about their relationships with each other these days, they could be "Buncha Beaches".

A recent book about tBBs discussed the reunion tour, concluding the discussion thusly: "And with the tour ended, the band members returned to what they do best - suing each other."

Hard for me to understand, with people who did such fantastic stuff together, but not be able to reconcile differences. They're not the only ones, for sure though.
IMO, the key to long term success in a band, is working out the song ownership up front. Coming to mutual agreement on credits.

Its not just song credits. Touring/name rights also come into play.

John Densmore sued the other Doors to prevent them from touring under that name. He even wrote an entire book about it - I think it was called Doors Unhinged

There was much hue & cry among the Byrds when drummer Michael Clarke toured under the name w/various pick up musicians

Just recently Burton Cummings withdrew all performance rights for "American Woman" to prevent the Guess Who's former bassist from publicly doing it on tour under the band name.

John Fogerty prevented the other CCR members from touring under under the original name, & forced them to bill themselves as Credence Clearwater Revisited

I think in most all of those cases though, it was about publishing and song rights.
All because it wasn't hammered out up front.

The Doors shared their writing credits.

Burton Cummings did not write all the Guess Who's hits.

There are some bands -- Who, Kinks, CCR -- where one guy dominated the writing.
As stated, Fogerty fought the others touring as CCR. However Ray Davies, not usually the most financially generous of men, has allowed ex-Kinks to play publicly, as the Kast Off Kinks

This kind of sharing was common in the early days, especially with young people that didn't understand publishing rights and guys that had no idea of the staying power of the things that they had written.
"We're just a band looking for a hit."
Later on though, when your songs are being covered by craploads of people, you know you made a mistake being flippant about the song ownership.
