I recently went down a Beastie Boys rabbit-hole on Youtube.

Caveat: I missed the boat on BBs when I was younger. Listed to License to Ill, cover to cover, then stopped. Am catching up right now.
It started with their induction into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2012
Youtube - Chuck D and LL Cool J - Opening Remarks
Its 13 mins long, but Chuck D tells the story of the BBs giving a demo tape of LL to Rick Rubin, their producer.
Acceptance Speach by MIke D and Ad-Rock (MCA was sick at this time)
It led me to a bunch of reaction videos that got me to something I hadn't seen before.
Offical Video for 3 MCs and 1 DJ
Shot live... one take....used as the official video. All music created by Mix Master Mike on the table. Creative as hell and on point for Beastie Boys.

Paul’s Boutique tanked at the time it came out in around 89 but it is now looked at as groundbreaking & is their best album start to finish.

Paul's Boutique is still a masterpiece of production and sampling. A shame its mostly overlooked by mainstream fans.

Questlove from the Roots says that when he teaches class about hip-hop, he teaches Paul's Boutique.

This has become mainstream opinion since the mid-90’s, but I disagree. I could completely skip over it in their discography and never miss it.

To think Paul's Boutique and MMMBop were produced by the same duo.

MMMBop is a banger and the Hanson's are an American treasure.

The laws regarding sampling changed after Paul's Boutique. I don't think they had to pay for any of that but you would today.

Did people not see my fricking avatar of MCA of THE BEASTIE BOYS (aka Nathan Wind aka Cochese)?
Ya'll sense of humor has been sabotaged, jeez

I’m on mobile, so no. You’re right about a lot of humor being sabotaged, though. I can’t stand it, I know they planned it.

There's a good documentary about them on Netflix.

Listed to License to Ill,
Their worst album in my opinion. I mean, I've listened to it 1000 times, but it seems immature and boorish compared to their later works...
Edit: And for the record, I saw the Beasties in 1986 before they released License to Ill when they opened for RUN DMC....

Apologies I'm on mobile. Too late to take back. Chicken should add some hamsters or chinchillas on a wheel so we could change upvotes/downvotes after clicking another page.

I’ve listened to it more than 1000 times. How much rap/hip hop isn’t immature and boorish?

It is. That's the appeal. When they started doing hippie jams on their later albums I stopped listening. Even Ill Communication is only about half good.
