Epiphone Hummingbird looks like the best option, but are there any others I should consider?

That may be the best option if you're staying away from Chinese stuff

Yeah, I try to do that.
Do Taylor or Martin have any made in Mexico dreadnought guitars that might fit the bill?
I want a solid spruce top at least and a 24 3/4" scale.
ETA- I did recently buy a new Chinese guitar that is fantastic, but it was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up
The Fender Paramount resonator. It came with a Fishman Nashvile spider bridge pickup and a nice hardshell case for $550.00.
It plays and sounds great, especially plugged in.
I figured I would have to tweak it a little, but it was perfect right out of the box.

Spend a few extra sheckles and get a Taylor. The Expressions system is worth it alone if you play out.

I believe Martin has something in that range however a buddy bought one and said the specific guitar he received was "junk."

Martin and Gibson would be dumb to offer a quality, foreign option to compete against their more premium, American made models, although Gibson has done so with some of their Epiphone stuff. I believe Martin makes a conscious effort to not do so so I wouldn't waste time with any of their "affordable" models.

Eastman would be my #1 in that range, if that's out of the question I personally would look at Yamaha next and then Epiphone but those are just my personal preferences.

Yeah, It's probably going to be The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson.
Really love that Faded Cherry Sunburst, but so does everyone else
I know about 4 different pickers with that exact same guitar.
Guess I could go with the natural finish.

I don't play out at all. Just recording song demos.
I've gotten spoiled for shorter scale guitars though.
One of my friends that I pick with has a Taylor 914,yeah it's an incredible guitar, but way out of my price range.

The ones I have played have been good, especially if you like the Gibson "feel." I still want to try the 1957 J200.

I used to be this way, but I really wanted. 12 fret couch guitar. I just couldn’t spend 5K to get a Martin O12-28, knowing I might want to trade it or sell it one day. I happened upon a used Eastman E20-OOTC for $999. This guitar is well built has a thermo-cured Adirondack top and Rosewood Back and sides. It plays as well as other Martins I own and the build is very tight and clean. The tone is not quite at the same level as guitars that are 4x the price. However it sounds 2x better than other budget guitars. The only problem you will run into is Eastman might not make a short scale square shoulder dread.

It's a 25.5, but I've been eyeballing this Breedlove:

Breedlove Myrtlewood and Sitka Spruce Dread

I prefer the older Breedlove headstocks, but I'm assuming they changed them for a reason.

That high E is holding on for dear life, sir. I don't know how you keep that in tune.

That's the way strings on my slot head also look. I don't even do an over wrap of the string across itself.

(from here not mine)

To me it helps with tuning keeping the cylindrical shape round. With an over wrapped string it can be harder (IMHO) to get those finals couple of cents just right because of the radius changing to oval at the wrap. I just make sure they're up tight against the previous wrap.

Seagull and Godin used to all be at that scale (and the change to 25.5" wasn't exactly popular at the time). If you're not completely averse to the used market, that might be an option.

Took your advice and must have looked at a thousand Godin, Seagull, Norman and A&L guitars.
There are some that have short scale available, but they tend to be cedar tops.
