Yeah isbell sucks ngl

He tries to be cool and relate to us southerners even though he’s clearly from New York City

Who tf calls it a cast iron skillet. It’s literally called a frying pan

ETA: wrong kid died bring back Jason Molina

The only thing I can agree with is bring back Molina, but not as a trade for Isbell. Everything else is just ridiculous.

I'll be the first to admit that he's gotten pretty soft on the last few albums, but that happens to people when they get married and settle down. He raged harder than most for a good while.

Cast Iron Skillet is one of his best songs.

Heard Deathwish on the radio yesterday and immediately thought he kind of ripped off the Flatlanders with those lyrics: Flatlanders Dallas

Yes, the song i heard was a girlfriend w/ a death wish in her eyes. I guarantee you Isbell has heard the Flatlanders (more likely Joe Ely version) song. Might be a stretch, but I doubt it. Lyrics to Dallas are A+. Isbell lyrics not so much.

Given his history on that sort of thing, it’d be pretty funny if Isbell got hit for sampling a song.

so far on the first listen it's really good. solid 7/10. need to dig in a deeper but the lyrics and arrangements are great. the songwriting is better than most of reunions so far

Agreed. Some sonic experimentation going on in the latter parts of the album.

what about this is cringe? I think any parent could relate to the lyrics. and they aren't preachy. I think every parent in the back of their mind fears a school shooting happening at their kids school. idk, I think the lyrics are pretty profound.

quote:

I left my wallet in the hotel room
They barely let me on the plane
I didn’t get a chance to check the news
Somebody shot up a classroom again

And when you said the cops just let um’ die
I heard the shaking in your voice
And for a moment you began to cry
And then I heard you make a choice

We can find a time to fall apart
Say the names of all the dead
I’m still dreaming in my heart of hearts
But somethings changing in my head

Swear you’ll save the world
And I lose my grip
Tell me you’re in control
Swear you’ll save the world
And I start to slip
Cause you’ll be the first to know

Balloon popping at the grocery store
My heart jumping in my chest
I look around to find the exit door
Which way out of here’s the best

The kids looking through the candy aisle
Schools starting in a week
A lady says you have a lovely child
And I’m too terrified to speak

Can we keep her here at home instead
And can we teach her how to fight
Somethings changing inside my head
Somethings drowning out the light

Swear you’ll save the world
And I lose my grip
Tell me you’re in control
Swear you’ll save the world
And I start to slip
You’ll be the first to know

Swear you’ll save the world
And I lose my grip
Tell me you’re in control

Swear you’ll save the world
When I start to slip
Cause you’ll be the first to know

Swear you’ll save the world
When I lose my grip
Tell me you’re in control
