It's pretty good!

Jeff Lynne told Rolling Stone magazine that the idea came from him listening to the original Electric Light Orchestra recordings, and thinking that he could produce a better result having since had a long career as a record producer.

Lynne decided to re-record a number of songs from scratch, and began with "Mr. Blue Sky". He told Rolling Stone that "I enjoyed doing that a lot, and when I listened back to it and compared it to the old one, I really liked it much better.

I'd love to see them live. From videos I've seen, Lynne sounds great live. There was supposed to be a tour a few years ago but it fell through.

A guy who used to work for me put together a tribute album to Jeff Lynne a few years ago. He got people like Ben Folds and Todd Rundgren to cover various songs but it was kinda meh.

I'll look around and see if it's still out there.

I was actually listening to ELO II a couple of days ago. You could see they had something going on, and were able to perfect their 'sound' over the next couple of records. Jeff Lynne first joined The Move with the idea of eventually creating a band with classical instruments or Sgt. Pepper sound.

I still remember the first time I saw them live back in 1974 at St. Bernard Civic Auditorium, opening act was Climax Blues Band. They always put on a good live show.

Lynne's real genius was as a producer and arranger. He did write some good songs but the majority of them are third rate McCartneyish rips, dressed up all nice and big by the production to make them seem way more impressive than they really are. Very overrated.

ETA: the best stuff is to be found on the first three, maybe four albums. Mr. Kingdom from Eldorado has always stood out for me for some reason. Face the Music started the decline, and A New World Record sealed the deal. What a load of crap that was, and it got worse from there.
