I'm partial to the "Willie does Kris" album.

Also, very hard to beat the first The Highwaymen album.

Read the lyrics to: To Beat the Devil, Duvalier's Dream, The Law Is for Protection of the People, Sunday Morning Coming Down, Best of All Possible Worlds

Then you will understand "at what".

Growing up, my father had an 8 track of Kris Kristofferson's Greatest Hits, and we listened to it every time we would make the 12 hour drive to my grandparent's house in Florida. He was a masterful songwriter, and was one of my all-time favorites.

My father has dementia now, and at least once per week I go visit him in the assisted living facility. When I go, sit with him and play guitar...and will always make sure to play "The Other Side of Nowhere" and "Best of All Possible Worlds" for him. Watching someone who can't remember what has happened 3 minutes ago sing along to every word of these songs is transformational, and I'm grateful for what Kris Kristofferson put out there that I now get to share with my father.

So many amazing songs that the average person has never heard.

Never Gonna be the Same Again
Billy Dee
Breakdown (A Long Way from Home)
Best of All Possible Worlds
From the Bottom to the Bottle
The Taker
Living Legend
Kiss the World Goodbye
Other Side of Nowhere
Duvalier’s Dream
And a lot more…

Every single year I’ve had Spotify, Kris has been my top artist listened to. (Jim Croce is number two). I am in the top .01% of his listeners.

So he’s the GOAT to my personal music taste at the least. His lyrics are meaningful. And he could write the hell out of a super sad serious song or a goofy play on words.

If there is one person outside of a family member who has made the most impact on my life, it is Kris Kristofferson. His songs have brought me so much joy and made me think about life in ways I never otherwise would have.

My dad used to listen to his cd on roadtrips and I thought it was lame old person music as a kid until it hit me differently at about age 16.

The man was a genius. He had a lot of flaws. He wasn’t a great singer although his album versions were much better than his live performances. I completely disagreed with his politics. But his words have moved me in a way no other person on Earth has.

The last concert I went to with my dad was Kris Kristofferson in 2006. His music shaped not only my childhood, but my adult life as well.

Personally (slightly modified):

Cause I think what he's done
Is well worth doin'
And he was doin' it the
Best way that he can
Oh you're the only one
That you are screwin'
When you put down what
You don't understand

I ain't sayin' that he was
The first or the last
But if you don't like Kris Kristofferson
You can kiss my arse

Not to derail this thread away from Kristofferson, but in reading up on one of his former wives I was floored to see this...

"Layla"

(Rita) Coolidge also did not receive songwriting credits for the coda of the 1971 single "Layla" by Eric Clapton's band Derek and the Dominos. In 2016, Coolidge stated that she recorded a demo with her boyfriend, the band's drummer Jim Gordon, before they went to England to record with Clapton. Once they met with Clapton, Coolidge played the piece she composed for him and she gave him a cassette. Clapton, impressed by the piece, used it as part of the song in the ending section which she found out by hearing the song over a PA system a year later. She tried to contact Clapton, but was told by his manager Robert Stigwood, "What are you gonna do? You're a girl. You don't have money to fight this. Let it go." She has not heard from Clapton himself but believes he is aware of the situation.

And yet more evidence Clapton was always a POS is revealed. lol

I also recognize the name Robert Stigwood, which I remember seeing as producer for the movies of Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy, and Evita. Holy shite, that guy had his finger in many more entertainment pies:

I don't think Clapton's a POS. It's more than likely a mix up.

I believe Delaney and Bonnie also previously claimed they had their hand in on that song also. I also remember JJ Cale saying that the rythym portion of Layla was pinched from one of his songs.

It's all heresay anyway.

I remember him in connection with the Bee Gees and RSO (Robert Stigwood Organization) Records.

I didn't realize he was a POS either. The coda to Layla is a huge part of the song and maybe the most memorable.

Was NOT aware of this situation.

Stigwood was in The Beatles mix too.

Clapton got so pissed his wife met him at the airport in his new Ferrari to surprise him, he said he'd have to sell it because she drove it before he did.
