Meh.
I haven't been a fan since St. Anger (ETA: St. Anger ended it for me - I should say - I liked Load/Reload better than the typical Metallica fan did). They should never have made that movie and pulled back the curtain, at least not that far.

Eh, I liked the movie more than the album.
I have to be honest and say I've never listened to hardwired other than at the shows when they play the songs.

If you don't like heavy metal, that would be one thing. But if you think Death Magnetic is actually awful, then yes, it means you just don't actually like Metallica. Perhaps you confused Death Magnetic with that actually dreadful thing they did with Lou Reed?

For clarification - I think St. Anger and Death Magnetic are awful, with the possible exception of My Apocalypse. I can listen to Unforgiven III, but almost as a metaphor, it is such a significant drop from the first 2 installments that it is jarring.
(ETA - the more I think about it, My Apocalypse and Unforgiven III might be awful, too, maybe just the best of the bad?)
