I'll say it again and will get downvoted again but Brad Gillis' guitar work has no soul and he was a major letdown on Speak Of The Devil live album. Part of that is because RR was so good but part is because Brad and Night Ranger are exploitive generic trash without any originality. They are the worst of the 80's. Their inclusion in Boogie Nights was brilliant especially when you compare it Reed and Dirk's stab at rock stardom. They were Night Ranger lite and apparently you all missed Paul Thomas Anderson pointing this out.

It must have been hard to fill in for RR on short notice, but Gillis did fine IMHO. He had one of the first Floyd Rose tremolos and used the frick out of it on that album. It annoyed me in 82 but has aged very well. Jeff Watson's playing was OK, but his " 8 finger technique " was and is a laughable schtick.

I don’t need movie characters to tell me how to feel about a band.
