One of the greatest guitar players in the world hopping around on stage playing fake guitar behind Rihanna…the world is truly a fricked up place.

Nuno has been Rihanna's touring guitarist for years, since 2010. He's her band director as well.

He's like close to 60..right?

Imagine being that age, playing things way way below your skill level with no focus on you and then being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to do it.

Seeing the world and being able to do it with the people you love while you still can.

I condemn his decisions too and think he should only focus on his hair metal

Eta

And you're allowed to sell out after 50. Its all over by that point, any extra years you stay hard beyond that is bonus cred.

I’m not blaming Nuno. Calm down. It’s just a scenario full of irony.

Not really the case, though, seeing as he gets a featured spot during her performances every night on tour.

you think rhinanna's touring guitarist is paid "hundreds of thousands of dollars"? when she hasn't performed live in 6 years?

I dont know what deal he has worked out with her over the years. But for that single show? No.

Over time? Yes.

over 7 years? yeah maybe he's made 500k total playing tour gigs with her. keep in mind she hasn't performed live since 2016. I don't know what he gets paid but I assure you it's not hundreds of thousands each year.

he likely didn't make much of anything performing last night.

I guarantee you he is on a retainer of at least 150k per year…and yes I get that she hasn’t toured in several years…those guys are on a different level.

you can't assure me on that. especially if he is doing more than just playing guitar. I do have experience in that business..Not on that level, which few are..and those that are, are paid well.

I beg to differ

Yeah what a sellout loser

I would way rather play hack country covers in Baton Rouge than play baby chords at the Super Bowl with those cRappers

Did that band even play? They popped up out of nowhere for a minute but I never heard anything resembling bass, guitar, and drums. It was just the loud droning synths the whole time.

And though the show has already received plenty of praise on social media and beyond, there's one thing it didn't get: a paycheck.

Did the NFL Pay Rihanna to Perform At Halftime?
You may be thinking that the NFL will be willing to pay top dollar to get such an iconic lineup of halftime performers. The truth is, artists that perform at a Super Bowl halftime historically make nothing.

In a 2016 interview with Forbes, NFL spokesperson Joanna Hunter said: “We do not pay the artists. We cover expenses and production costs.”

If They Don't Get Paid, What's In it For the Artists?
While halftime performers don’t get a paycheck from the NFL for their time and efforts, ultimately, they reap financial benefits through their guaranteed exposure to millions of people.

Through the halftime performances, artists are given an unmatched opportunity to promote their newest albums or singles, driving traffic to their upcoming tours or latest projects.

In 2020, Spotify reported that Super Bowl LIV’s halftime performance by Shakira spiked her streams by 230% while Jennifer Lopez’s went up 335%.

In 2018, Justin Timberlake’s halftime show increased his sales gain by 534%.

SEClint, who was Nuno paid by? The label? Rhianna's management?

Because he wasn't paid by the NFL for performing.

Not SEClint, but the simple answer is Fox...when I lived in Nashville many years ago my roommate played drums for LeeAnn Rhimes...he personally made money from the network every time they played a TV gig, and if the performance was re-aired he made royalties.
