it will sound just like the P

a jazz bass will never sound "just like" a P. two totally different instruments.

NOW, you can put some Pbass pickups in your jazz and get the best of both worlds and it'll be close. but different neck, different body etc and it's still not the same thump as a p bass

I now have a Geddy !

My USA Geddy is the best sounding, best playing Jazz bass I’ve ever come across. It’s just a spectacular instrument. My USA 75 RI is close (easily the better looking with CAR finish and matching headstock) but the Geddy has something special. When I play it I don’t want to put it down, well, unless it’s near the end of a 4-hour gig. Sometimes not even then.

I recently got a Squier Classic Vibe P because I just wanted a P to fool around with and I found one that must have been a factory mistake because the neck is Jazz width. I could tell just by playing, but I measured it and sure enough 1.5”. The nut overhangs just a tad on each side, so had to be a factory error. Great for me! I put some Fender 63 pickups in it and slapped on a Fender high mass bridge and the thing is a solid player. Light as hell too.

Agreed. People say just solo the neck pickup on the Jazz. No, not close. I don’t want my Jazz to sound like a P anyway.
