Well I will admit getting you all riled up this afternoon was a solid way to burn off the last hour of work.

I truly feel sorry for you.
Well you like Panic, so that's mutual.

I dont think this is true at all. I think if you polled 100 people in a phish lot and asked them who their second favorite band is, over half would say the dead.
I don't doubt that. Just calling it like I see it.

Long story short: do you think the lack of consistently taking songs into new territory is a phase of just an evolution of the band?
The amount of jams per show has obviously decreased, and these days if you do get one it is almost always near the beginning of Set II. Long jams aren't completely gone though. Just from this summer tour we have
28:27 Chalk Dust 7.13
25:58 Fuego 7.18
20:16 DWD 8.1
20:05 Fuego 7.4
19:00 Fuego 7.30
18:01 Bathtub Gin 7.11
16:32 Ghost 7.12
16:05 Tweezer 7.13
14:44 The Wedge 7.20
Plus other segments that add up to lengthy times (7.1 Ghost->Weekapaug , 7.27 Set II)
I'd say the shorter jams are a product of sobriety and interests. It's not necessarily bad. There is much less space wankery. Take Set II from Saturday for example. Carini, Ghost, Mike's, Simple, Weekapaug, YEM all in one set. Back in the day that'd be a improvisational titan of a set. Instead we got focused, tight jams in each song. I enjoyed it.

I think the OB 46 Days was one of the best, shorter shreds of the tour. The crowd energy during it was huge b

Wolfman's was also, as usual, fantastic

Only highlight of 12/31/11. The bounce is real.

Dont applaud his melt. He's an adult. He should act like one.

I'm not indulging a simpleton, sorry.

I thought the Mike's from Oak Mtn had a nice little jam in it. They got into a pretty tight groove for a minute or two It was probably my favorite part of the show, other than the YEM.

Yea good points, and I'll say that when they take their jams out there, they are more consistent now about them being good. In 2.0 you didn't know if you were gonna get a monster or just trey droning away forever. Sometimes it felt like they were having a race to take a song down to nothing but ambience. Hampton 04 is still burned in my mind as an example of that haha.

And I do really enjoy what they're doing. Was re-listening to a few things from coventry this week to show my wife how bad off they were at that point and man that Glide is even worse than I remembered it being.
That being said, I'm still a sucker for some of those 2.0 jams
