Why is it that seemingly 90% of female singers in recent years try to rip off the Billie Holiday sound? Almost never fails at some live venue, some chick steps up to the mic and the inevitable Billie Holiday cringe voice appears. Has this become the female equivalent of the Eddie Vedder-ripoff voice?

Just to clarify, I like Billie Holiday's voice. I find it cringe when someone else tries to copy her voice.
