I used to love these guys back in college but they fell off after the first few albums. No word on the lineup though.

Breaking a decade of omertà, The Mars Volta reawaken from their lengthy hiatus with an eponymous album that radically reshapes their paradigm. The new album shakes loose some of The Mars Volta’s long-standing shibboleths, fearlessly defying all expectations and categorizations. Instead, The Mars Volta pulses with subtle brilliance, Caribbean rhythms underpinning sophisticated, turbulent songcraft. This is The Mars Volta at their most mature, most concise, most focused. Their sound and fury channeled to greatest effect, The Mars Volta finds Rodríguez-López’s subterranean pop melodies driving Bixler-Zavala’s dark sci-fi tales of the occult and malevolent governments. Distilling all the passion, poetry and power at their fingertips, The Mars Volta is the most exciting and accessible music the group has ever recorded.

Deloused in the Comatorium and Frances the Mute are fantastic records. Here's a nice cover of The Widow. Well, "nice" doesn't really do her voice justice.

Deloused was on constant rotation throughout high school for me. And Fleas playing on it greatly influenced my approach to bass.
I'm hoping they somewhat return that style, even if just for a few songs.

This track from the new album was just released today. Quite a departure, but I really like it.

TMV was my favorite band from about 2004-2009. I don't think I've ever been into a band more than them. They were putting out really interesting and creative music for their first 4 albums. But I just cannot get into anything since after Bedlam.
I've listened to all 3 of the songs released for this new album and they just don't do it for me. They aren't bad, but just not something I'd want to give repeated listens. I've pretty much given up on expecting the same level of quality we saw between Deloused and Bedlam...what a shame.
Were any of you at the Orpheum show in NOLA in 2005? That was wild. A couple in the row ahead of us began fricking during Cassandra Gemini.

A friend went but he wasn't fricking anyone there hahaha.
I saw them at the HOB in New Orleans during the Goliath tour. That small of a venue was an absolutely awesome show

I was there for that one too. It was a good show. But damn, that Orpheum show was amazing. I've seen them probably 10 times and that was easily the best. Setlist was:
Drunkship of Lanterns
Concertina
Take the Veil
Cygnus
L'Via
Roulette Dares
The Widow
Cassandra Gemini.

Deloused is the only one that gets constant spin in my rotation these days. It's a front to backer. The subsequent albums seemed to get less and less, glad to hear others echo that sentiment. They just didn't quite hit as hard.

They are releasing an acoustic version of the album on April 21.
2 songs have been put out and I am digging them. Though the drumming on some of Blank Condolences is kind of irritating.
Blank Condolences
Palm Full of Crux
Looking at my first post in this thread, I've completely changed my mind on this album. It grew on me a ton. It's a great change of pace for the band. It's certainly better than their prior 2 albums.
