Really other than Rod Stewart, Gregg Allman, Freddie Mercury, Paul Rodgers, Van Morrison, Roger Daltry and anyone who sang in The Band or the Beach Boys there aren't a whole lot of great "singers" in rock and roll
Burton Cummings was awesome.

Dave Mustaine's always been an especially terrible singer. He had to front Megadeth because the band is basically a big "Frick you" to Metallica for booting him, but still, he sounds wretched.

I like Dave's guitar riffs but his lyrics are ridiculously corny and his voice is legit one of the worst things I've ever heard in music. I can't listen to a single thing by Megadeth

Then you don't disagree with me. He's one of the ones I listed as a great singer. Great singers are always great vocalists. Great vocalists aren't always great singers.

If you would go to one of their concerts but wouldn't want them singing at your wedding they are a great vocalist. If you would go to one of their concerts and want them to sing at your wedding they are great singers. I would be geeked to have Paul Rodgers sing at my wedding, David Lee Roth not so much and I consider Roth to be the greatest "vocalist"/frontman in the history of rock and roll.

This will get downvoted but Joe Cocker sings like shite. I can't fricking stand his voice.

I can see it being a "love it or hate it" thing, but he is not a terrible singer. And the style he chose for Megadeth songs is awesome.

Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen are both terrible, however.

I mean if you’re going to fault him for being 60, whatever but that dude had some pipes younger. Probably one of the best male rock singers.

Considering how huge they were, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley sang like shite.

Not by me. I've always wondered how anyone could like his voice...much less want to watch him sing.

He lost the complete purity in his voice when he hit middle age, but he was great in his youthful prime. LINK

I heard the isolated vocals from Have a Cigar once and Roy Harper sounded pretty bad. May have been the making of the album documentary.

I'm not sure if he'd be considered "popular" but Patterson Hood has one of the worst voices I've ever heard. And I still willingly listen to DBT and his solo stuff

Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull). He lost his singing voice years ago..
We saw them perform TAAB around 2010 and he had a stand-in singer for much of the concert.
