when it takes 25 responses to get one of the members of cacophony mentioned... its rough times for music. friedmans talent is easily the most underrated in all of music. his approach to phasing is so unique, that to even approach something similar is immediately known as a friedman rip off. becker, the other member of cacophony is only known by guitar players because he got ALS when he was 23, so most of his recordings and footage are from when he was a teenager.
here is one his greatest moments, a jam with friedman at the carvin guitar factory.
greatness by two unknown to the public.

Damn it's hard to narrow it down to 5 but I'll give it a shot:
John Petrucci

No argument here but without Elmore (or Sylvester), there would've been no Duane.

Sure I'm nitpicking but Elmore James was considered the King Of Slide Guitar....
Thanks.

I know who Friedman is and I respect his abilities I would just rather here cats anally penetrate each other than listen to that style of guitar....

then you dont respect what he does.
if you think he sounds like shite, you cant respect his playing. to say "that style of guitar..." its embarrassing for you to think that friedman and becker are one trick ponies.... wow.

You must've only listened to Cacophony...
I've never heard a guitarist with such a unique spin on so many styles. His Middle Eastern sounding tunes are his best IMO. Listen to some of these and tell me you don't like him a bit more! Those exotic bends are one of a kind.
Tears of an Angel
Little Wing Cover
Sad Solo
LINK
And of course....the legends:
Tornado solo
Lucretia solo (start at 6:17)

Where did he say any of this?
Sounds like he just doesn't care for that hair band/shred style. I tend to agree.

Nonsense, Roy Buchanan was bending strinfs as creratively in the 60's and 70's. Roy's Bluz from 1976

Do we include both living and dead?

Great stuff, except for 3:25-3:40. That is bad.

You mentioned him, and I can still think of at least 10 right off hand that I'd put in front of him. Read the title again: "Your top 5 guitarists."
It's all opinion.

Wrong. If your list does not contain Hendrix OR Edward Van Halen then you are a moron who does not know what they are talking about.

It's all opinion. Sure, I have Hendrix in mine. However, to me, Van Halen isn't all that great. Yes, he is outstanding technically, but like I've stated in other guitar threads it's not about how fast you play to me. I have many ahead of the guy. Once again, it's your preference. You can't say any persons choice on here is wrong, the title of the thread is Your top 5 guitarists

This. I dont enjoy shred.... Not even in the slightest it just sounds silly to me. I respect the abilities of the people who are capable of doing it and as a knowledgable fan of music that is all that is required of me. I am not required to enjoy it

You are an idiot if you actually believe that. I'll give you Hendrix, but Van Halen is a noodler with very little creativity.
