Every season since Aminu's third year in the league is better than QPon's if you're looking at advanced metrics. idk what you guys are seeing.

I've been telling ya'll forever.. Aminu is a stud. One of the most athletic players in the whole league, and now he has his shot down. Watch out world, the Prince who was Promised is here.

in games that tip off after 7pm in mountain west time zone while playing more than 25 minutes per game against northwest division opponents

It's interesting that nobody seemed to be defending Aminu when he was still here. Now half the board is thumping their chest claiming they were right about him.

Even his last few years with you guys were better than what Qpon did

Lol go through my post history, especially early posts. Half of them are defending Aminu.

The frustration with Aminu on this board is that he was apparently 2 years away from being ready for the role Monty was asking him to play. He was very flawed as a starting SF, had he been a cheap backup he wouldn't have gotten as much hate. I will say that the board pretty universally thought his contract was crazy, so had we signed him for that there'd have been some melting, but he was still pretty flawed as a starting SF at that point.
I think it's a lesson we need to learn from though. Just like bigs can take a while to develop, 3 and D wings without a shot can take a while to develop. Someone like Solomon Hill who's 25 will probably figure it out on his next contract if he's going to figure it out. That's the kind of players we should look at if we can't get a Batum, an athletic D wing that's near ripening age that you can get relatively cheap. The same principle applies to 25 year old James Ennis.

One of these is not like the other:
Rick Carlisle
Terry Stotts
Monty Williams
How much hesitation did you see out of Aminu while watching him in these playoffs? Zero. Look to Ariza as well. I still have flashbacks of pump faked wide open 3s from Ariza/Aminu that turned into contested 16 footers or drives into traffic.

The blame is not solely on Monty Williams. You have to also consider that he was the only player remotely resembling an NBA SF that Monty was given to work with, so of course Monty thrust him into a role he wasn't ready for.

Coaching aspect/context is a fair point. What Carlisle/Stotts run on offense is different than Monty. Those differences can affect players in certain ways. Like everything, there is a trade off. One area they are definitely better than Monty is using Aminu as a 4 more often.
On the other hand, Aminu has clearly gotten better skills wise. That is credit to him and whoever works with him during the summer/season. And some of that may be because of the failures in NO. Sometimes guys just need time. And, even with his improvements, he's still a rotation player in the NBA. Not knocking him- god knows the Pels could use more rotation players. But he hasn't morphed into a stud or something. He's a limited NBA player, but he still brings value to his team.
I do think it was weird the Pels didn't want to keep him at the minimum he ended getting from Dallas. Maybe it was a mutually agreed split and for the best for Aminu, but they could have used his skills. Aminu/Anderson was a pairing that worked fairly well. Playing him next to Davis when he is at the 5 would have been interesting. Potentially being able to throw out Jrue/Q/Aminu/Anderson/Davis for stretches is enticing too.
Hopefully, they can target some quality rotation guys to give them some stability and versatility this summer

That's the thing with the NBA. You don't get the luxury of having years to develop a guy. We are talking about a lottery pick who showed no real progression over 4 years. What can ya do? Another team usually always reap the benefit of late bloomers

We've been on the other end of it too. It happens.

I'm not saying we should have waited on Aminu, but we can target players that hopefully are getting ready to bloom. corndeaux has been saying since last year the most likely answer to our SF problem is to find our own PJ Tucker. If we can't land a difference maker in FA, your strategy of signing Hill and Ennis works for me. Sign some stop gap vets and save cap space for 2017. It's not exciting, but the only reason this offseason should be exciting is if we win the lottery.
