Just posted on the Karlo back to G league thread .... and the same thing here. Why would you not sign Elfrid when DJM went down? The offense looked better organized last night than any time since the opener. Pels probably would have had 3-4 more wins if they just signed him in the first place instead of J. 'I ain't seen a shot I don't like' Norwell. Just 'BAss Ackwards'.

When they signed Nowell they still had Jose. I think the thinking behind it was Nowell was a shooter anf scorer so he’ll give space to BI to operate. That really never panned out mainly because Jose got hurt and Nowell really wasn’t a shooting threat. Plus Nowell was bad on defense and offensively only looked for his own shot. It was a swing and a miss with him.
My thinking is there are different ways to help BI you didn’t always need just a shooter. A guy like Elfrid creates space with his passing and driving lanes. I agree they should have signed him from the beginning.

I still think that there may have also been a locker room or coaching issue with Nowell.
This is normally something that we would have done on Monday, so that Elfrid could practice with the team before the road trip. The fact that it happened on the road, with Elfrid getting signed and starting the same day, tells me that Nowell messed up somehow. I think that Nowell's IG message is a confirmation of that.

Some may say this is just recency bias but Nowell is on a long list that goes 5 years back to Temple, Sato, Bledsoe, Graham, Richardson, Snell, and Inwundu who all got big minutes at the expense of players they actually wanted to develop for the future. Additionally, none of these players (save Graham and the OKC miracle) contributed to winning, culture or entertainment. Like I said earlier, I give up on trying to figure out this front office and coach.

So I was listening to “From the Wing” pod with Christian Clark and he made an interesting comment in regards to when they signed Nowell. Supposedly, Clark said they wanted to sign Fultz, Dennis Smith or Elfrid Payton before they signed Nowell- but unfortunately all three were not healthy enough to play immediately hence they signed Nowell. Its good we got Payton now but Smith Jr and Fultz would have been good too. For a couple of those close losses those guys could have helped give us the ammunition we needed to win. I guess we’ll never know.
