Hopkins twice won the Pac-12 Coach of the Year award while at UW. The move reunites him with Troy Weaver, Pelicans Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations. Weaver and Hopkins were assistants on Syracuse’s 2003 championship team, which won the title in New Orleans.

This continues the Troy Weaver DMV/Nepo tree. Most of the moves has been done by Troy Weaver who honestly runs this team more than Nepo baby Joe Dumars.

Pels still get a F for the offseason. This hire actually makes it worse, another disaster.

How so? Please go into detail on Mike Hopkins's NCAA and NBA career as a coach and player developmental coach and tell us how it is a "disaster", using analytics and specific examples of how he in particular contributed to disaster.

Use 500-600 words minimum.

What the heck are you even talking about? Do you even know how front office hiring works? Are you calling Dumars a nepo baby?

He's coached some good players during his tenure. While HC at UW he coached Tybulle, Isaiah Stewart, and Keion Brooks. They didn't win much though. Was on Syracuse staff in 2003 (with Weaver) with Melo and McNamara on that team that won the National Championship.

Not a bad hire on paper.

Wait. I’m confused. Do you think the Washington on his resume is the Wizards?

He spent a long time at Syracuse, but Weaver and he only intersected briefly a long long time ago (4 years together at Syracuse 21 years ago).

He's not from DMV and has really spent zero time in that area. Syracuse is nowhere near DMV

Typical way most front offices work. They're hiring people they're familiar with the majority of the time.

Yeah, for sure.

However in this case they worked together for 4 years 21 years ago. Its not like he worked for him 3 years ago.

He spent 22 years on one of the best college basketball teams and staffs of all time.

He's been a HC and was in the NBA last year.

I don't see any downside to a hiring like this.

Agree 100%. Let's remember, he's doing player development. Is he "better" than Corey Brewer? Who knows!

Sorry to the usual suspects that this hire cannot be linked to trading Dyson Daniels or trading our 2026 unprotected pick!

that's true. I have more faith in him than pretty much anyone that came through here in the past 6 years with exception of Vinson. And I don't even know too much about him. Some of the things these young guys train in the offseason makes absolutely no sense. We definitely need a guy to reel these kids in and have them focus on things that matter and things that will get them on the court and stay there.

Jesus Christ! No, literally, we could hire Jesus Christ and you would bash the decision.

To riff on Major League, “You trying to say Jesus Christ couldn’t hit a free throw?!?”
