yeah I have a feeling they’ll get a little more for OG than just 7. Just don’t know what.

Also this same guy (Rafael Barlowe) said if Duren is gone, Spurs would take Mark Williams.

At that point I wonder how desperate Charlotte gets in trading up to guarantee at least one of these guys. Or trade Up to at least get Sochan. They really need an athletic defensive big

Deandre Ayton would reportedly embrace forming a new dynamic duo with Cade Cunningham on the Pistons, per
@TheSteinLine
.

Sounds like Pistons may sign him to a max offer sheet.

Signing him isn’t the problem.

Securing a trade from Phoenix is the problem. Sarver’s a greedy frick but he won’t let Ayton walk for nothing.

Yup there’s a lot of smoke with Ayton to Detroit. Hopefully another team that’ll be better than the lakers this season

Weaken phoenix and make Detroit better. Sounds good to me

I own Ayton in fantasy and am jumping at the moon.

He's going to be like a 22/12 guy now

Theoretically, what teams between 1-7 in draft order are NOT improving next season?

Portland will clearly be better. Houston, OKC, and Detroit are getting big infusions of young talent. Indy shouldn’t be actively tanking this season. Orlando potentially gets better but I don’t know by how much.

Sacramento wants to improve but I don’t know how well that works.

And while all this is going on, Lake Show is running it back right now while losing Monk. And they either aren’t getting bites on Westbrook or the proposed cost is too high.

If/when AD and LeBron inevitably get hurt, they will be low.

Given the current roster, though, I don’t see this working well even if they are fully healthy.

Detroit has a shitload of cap space, they can sign him to a full max offer sheet. Phoenix doesn’t want to pay him because they don’t want to pay the tax, so they’ll have no choice but let him walk.

It may get interesting though if it happens, does that make Booker and CP3 believe they have no way to win there with a cheap owner and they demand a trade?

Phoenix can match, keep him for at least half a season or so, then move him if Detroit doesn’t trade.

Only limits are he can’t be traded to Detroit if they do that and Ayton needs to sign off on where he is going in that first year.

Given how the season ended for them, I don’t see them matching for the hell of it. Monty and Ayton were having issues on camera in game 7 and that shite ain’t improving if he wants to leave and they make him stay but don’t pay him the max.

I don’t see them matching simply because they’re trying to avoid the tax. Even if they trade him at the deadline they would have to hope someone still has cap space or a tpe to take him into that would get them below the line.

They may not want to pay the tax but they also aren’t letting the former #1 overall pick walk without getting something for him.

Phoenix has been a punch line for so long that a LOT of people started taking the piss out of them when they talked a big game this year then struggled against us and Dallas.

Letting Ayton walk for nothing continues that loss of face.

That's what they're trying to avoid.

I think they would be restricted and he may be a base comp player which makes it harder. Plus, DET can include all sorts of up front money Sarver would have to pay. If their owner wants to write a big enough check, Sarver would have to match...and if they trade him, they don't get a rebate/refund

They fricked themselves by not getting the extension done last year. At that point, they signaled they were willing to get little back for him.

They already lost face. A year ago.

I figure him to Detroit is an extremely likely scenario. But Phoenix will get at least something and pretend it is what they wanted.

Point is that they can put Sarver and Jones’ nuts in a vise and have them choose between several bad scenarios.

status of OKC cap space
quote:

The Oklahoma City Thunder have approximately $23.4M in available cap space available in trades for the rest of the 2021-22 league year. This is after factoring in acquiring JaMychal Green. It goes away on July 1.

The nba is in a good spot for talent on paper at least. Give it a month into the regular season and you’ll start to see who the early tank drivers are though. Also every year there’s a top 20 guy that is sidelined too.

If OKC doesn’t mind paying the tax for one year, they could absorb a shite contract like Westbrook and take two Laker firsts as part of facilitating and trade.

Problem for LA is that if they are having to pay to dump Westbrook, any partner has to want probably $15-20m of OKC assets for what LA gets.
