Should have traded for Turner.

Do we even know if that deal was actually on the board? If so, I agree.

thing is, the Pelicans believe Hayes is the next Myles Turner or the next Jarrett Allen
And I don’t agree with this, especially not Turner. He could be Allen, who is not comparable to Turner.

And you're bound to have more bad takes.
Wait, so the guy who said Hayes at worst is Deandre Jordan, and thinks that’s a good fit with Zion, is the good take around here?
Posted on 6/21/19 at 1:25 pm to 1ranter1
LOL. Yeh, so Tyson Chandler’s defense had nothing to do with the Dallas Mavericks championship over Lebron and the heat????
GTF! Win shares my arse dude. Pels need Hayes - I also said at minimum, i.e. at worst. Basketball isnt just threes dude. Garland could be the next trey burke. Its all relative. Why does this board think he is Lillard? He isnt.
LEarl, I know your a fatass. So theres that

You’re ignoring the fact that the Pels organization has a history and track record of taking guys who don’t shoot 3’s or shoot them poorly and developing that part of their game.
Just in the past few years: Randle, Jrue, AD and Cunningham all developed or improved upon their 3pt shooting while with the Pels.
It’s fallacious to just assume that everyone on the roster will shoot the long ball at their career averages next season and that the guys who haven’t shot 3’s won’t develop the ability to.
It’s also fallacious to assume that the roster today is the roster the Pels will start or for that matter finish the season with.
If I had to wager, I’d bet that we see at least two FA signings and/or trades before the season starts.

The comparison I have seen the most for Hayes is Jarrett Allen which would be a great fit.
He's a puppy. He's young, grew 5 inches in between his Jr and Sr year in HS, grew another inch and 25 lbs at Texas, and his growth plates are reportedly still open.
He shot 82% from the FT in conference play on a pretty large sample size. He obviously has a shooting touch. He is already a good shot blocker and amazing rim runner. He has great agility and can catch lobs amazing well. Great athlete, was a WR in HS. Shaka Smart has gone on record as saying he thinks he will develop a shot based on what he's seen from him in practice.
People on here have way way too much of a NOW mentality, and too much of a football mentality. Basketball development does not work like football development.
You have to think about what the player could be, not what he is.

and what if he's Mo Bamba or Bam Adebayo?
every year there are 6-10/11 guys who are great athletes and not great basketball players. tyson chandler was one exception to the rule AFTER being a bust of sorts (he actually started his career out on the wing and rehabed it when he went down low)
your floor is just WAY too high. the vast majority of these guys bust pretty hard. they stick around and get hype with a strong playoff series (see: Bismack Biyambo), but very few turn into great players.

Why do you think Hayes can't space the floor?
Because there is no evidence that he can.

or a three
Because he didn’t shoot any, is only a basketball player because he gained a foot in height and has only been playing for 2 years, and the only thing making people think it’s possible is that he shot okay from the free throw line.
quote:
Are you expecting this from him this year
No. Never said or implied this I don’t think.
quote:
He has a high floor b/c of his athleticism and defense
Agreed. Neither of these things has any relevance to him potentially developing a shot.

which Pels fans seem to hope and pray he can

There's a whole lot of people on here making it obvious they know nothing about basketball, the current NBA, and the cap. This was a very very productive draft netting more assets and tons of cap space. Only time will tell how well the FO has evaluated prospects, but some of these over the top reactionary posts are just laughable and juvenile.
Thanks for keeping a level head

To add to what Fun Bunch just said using a local example, anyone who followed LSU last season saw the improvement in both offensive and defensive rebounding from Naz Reid and KBW throughout the season.
First half of the season, they were averaging under 5.3 boards each. The second half of the season both averaged closer to 10 per game.
They were obviously coached up in that department over the course of the year and improved tremendously.
That’s a large part of the reason why the team that lost 3 non-conference games against one good (not great) team, one average-to-above average team and one bad team beat every single SEC team during conference play.
I would bet a lot that by his second year, Hayes averages more rebounds per game than he did in college, and wouldn’t be shocked if he does it his rookie year.

so you admit the problem isn't with Hayes, it's with the 3 guards we have
Y’all are desperate. Yes, if and when the Pels completely change the team, including the package of young guys they just traded AD for, and Zion becomes a reliable 3 point shooter, then what Hayes projects to bring to the table will be a much better fit.
