perhaps when you're talking about bombs or missiles which are actually made of some sort of steel.
If you're talking about an unloaded light machine gun which puts LEAD on target, not so much.
Nearly every context where this is listed is from an Air Winger.
ETA: and BTW, the guy you're quoting is a pilot, not a grunt.
Maybe he's not a cook; he's in the Air Force.
