We could still cut Fleener post Jun 1st.
After Jun 1st Fleener is 5 million in dead money and 3 million in cap savings.
Plus an all important roster spot.

For a 1 yr 3 million cap hit (savings), i'm keeping Fleener and getting all i can out of him in receiving game. Thats me though.

Thats my point, his "meh signing" post is as dumb as he is..
Bruh, if you think signing a 37 yr old TE less than 2 yrs removed from a season ending injury is anything more than a meh signing, then YOU'RE dumb.
I don't hate it, but its far from sexy.

It's still $8.4 or whatever dead money total. Whatever doesn't hit the cap this year hits the cap next year.
So the question becomes is Fleener worth cutting this year over $3 mil and having $8+ mil in dead cap the next two years, or do we look at cutting Hill who saves only $1 mil less (saves $2 mil) but has much less dead money and really brings nothing but special teams play, which can be replaced for MUCH cheaper.

It's more than a "Meh" signing. There was a market for Watson-and rightfully so, Saints weren't his only stop/option.
If Fleener is healthy I could see the Saints keeping him on. I saw a drop off in 3rd down efficiency once he went out last year and I don't think it was coincidence.
I like the mismatches of multiple receiving threat tight ends and Kamara/Ingram in the backfield.

Watson was 16th in yards by a TE. I'd hardly call a middle of the pack of STARTING TE signing meh.

I think this confirms we go with BPA at 27. We can take Hurst in the 3rd/4th and get a pass rusher or O Line at 27. Still can't rule out they aren't looking at Kirk or Ridley tho

We'll see...I hope I'm wrong.
I just don't see what there is to get fired up about outside of him being a great guy and teammate. Again, I don't hate it.

Perhaps with Watson the professionalism and dedication that oozes from his every pore will find its way into some of Fleeners hair care products and change his game for the good.

Most annoying Saint since Heath Evans and Ernie Conwell.
His cliched Oprah-like virtue signaling is so lame.

Really not sure what to feel about this. I know he's an upgrade overall over any one specific TE on our roster, but Hooman serves as the H Back role where he shifts back and forth from fullback to inline blocker and is decent in the pass game, Fleener is still a high ceiling receiving threat that is dangerous on that seam route Brees loves to throw so much, and Hill is an imposing redzone target who's really improved his blocking. I really don't see how you cut one or two of those guys and expect 37 y/o Watson to fill that role.

Extremely overrated on this board.

Not saying he's a star or even a better overall player than Watson. I said he's got a specific role that I don't think Watson replaces. 6'5"/250# guys who run like that don't grow on trees. And watch some of those great sweeps and swing passes to Kamara and see the critical blocks Hill made to spring him.
The more we rely on screens, the more valuable a fleet-footed TE who can get out there and block becomes. While a capable traditional inline run blocker, Watson doesn't give you that at this stage of his career.

I could be wrong but didn't Watson start over Hill when he was here last time?
Posted on 3/28/18 at 2:48 pm to 50_Tiger
OK
Also 25 y/o players tend to get better over the next 2 years, 35 y/o players tend to trend in the other direction quickly.

You really think Hill is going to get better than what he already is?
