Bill Belichick did and the results were pretty dang good

Are you on crack?

quote:

Following a period of declining success and two consecutive seasons when the Patriots missed the playoffs, Bledsoe suffered a near-fatal injury early in the 2001 season and was replaced as starter by backup Tom Brady. He was unable to regain his starting position for the remainder of the season due to Brady's success, which led to the Patriots winning their first championship in Super Bowl XXXVI and began a dynasty for the franchise.

Not even close to a comparison.

Look at how Saban flipped QB’s twice in National Championships because the starter didn’t have it. He did it with Hurts as the starter , and Tua came in and won it . Then he took Tua out because he didn’t have it that night , and Hurts won

In which national championship game did Saban pull Tua out for Hurts? Are you thinking of the 2018 SEC championship?

You don’t bench your legendary QB. He’s earned the right to go out on his own terms

To quote Herm Edward’s: you play to win the game.

We all love Drew, but I’d have no issue with him being benched if Payton thought he was a liability.

This game will be forgotten within a few months. Benching Drew Brees in the final game of his career in the playoffs against Brady would never be forgotten, and not in a good way.

And if benching Drew had led to a win and maybe a Super Bowl appearance I for one would not care what others thought.

Hell it would show the true genius of Payton if he had the balls to bench Drew and ended in the Super Bowl because of it.

Then you are dumb, if Cook doesn’t fumble Brees leads back to back scoring drives to start the 2nd half and we win.

The Cook fumble was disastrous but there is no guarantee we score on that drive. It is entirely possible that Drew would have thrown another bad int and the results would have been the same.

Point is, no one knows what would have happened had Cook not fumbled. Maybe we win, maybe we don’t.

Far too many folks I speak to are so appreciative of Brees for his success with the Saints that they are willing to give him a pass for a couple of years. This is a business and the goal is to make it to the big dance each season. You don't say hey, let's give 75% effort this year and we'll see where that gets us.
When Brees was allowed to finish the game with his passing abilities noticeably diminished, it reminded me of the NCAA National Championship when Les Miles left Jordan Jefferson in for the second half after a horrendous display for the first half, when he could've tried Jarrett Lee to see if something would click. Not saying we'd would have won but at least try something different.
