The portal is for finishing pieces.., not wholesale rebuilds.
He took mostly guys from lower levels. That seems to translate more with pitching than hitting.

The solution is simple but this board won’t accept it.
Recruit and develop.
The way to get better at baseball is to play baseball. This season is just about lost.. let’s start playing more young kids and get them experience. Especially during the remaining midweeks.
Players like Milam. Stanny, Brown, and Curiel should not play another midweek inning the rest of the way.
The portal should be cut no more than a couple of depth pieces. Early this season we had 3/4 of infielders from the portal, that’s insane.
Jay thought he could plug and play on a large scale. Didn’t work. I think he understands.

Seems like every couple of months, stories are run in the media that Spirit is about to shut down. Abd they always find a way to keep going.

It feels like they have been on thin ice for 2 years and I would think suddenly higher fuel prices are not good.

This is a 5A high school (dropping to 4A next year) with a proud sports history in some sports. Their football, boys basketball, girls basketball teams all made playoffs - with girls basketball making the quarterfinals.
Their softball team went 0-25. They were shut out in 18 of those games.
Their baseball team went 0-19.
That’s rough.
