I honestly been looking for us to trade J Brown since 2007. For several years there have been rumors that his knees weren't going to hold up much longer.
Who knows if that is really true, and not that I wish this on him but, if he goes the way of Joe Johnson or LeCharles Bentley and never has another good year once he leaves the Saints, then the trade won't look quite as bad. I think we could have gotten a 2nd rounder in 2007 for him.

Brown won't stay healthy. He rarely did for the Saints. Although he made the Pro Bowl, he sometimes looked really bad in games.

He wasn't a cancer but he was handling his contract issues worse than the other guys who had disputes. He was also less likely than all of them to get a long term deal so he could have become a lockerroom cancer.

The Pro Bowl this, Pro Bowl that crap is so stupid.
Brown hasn't been good in three years and is coming off an injury. He had little trade value. Plus he has character concerns - domestic abuse issues.
All the Redskins did was continue to mortgage their future and get older. They hired a good coach and GM but a terrible DC and rented an overrated QB and a OT that has gimpy knees.
For the record, Bryant McKinnie is also a Pro Bowl LT and like Brown, he's not very good.

Compared to all the guys around the league that are unhappy and know they aren't going to get a new contract from their team, Jammal Brown came out looking a lot better than almost all of them. He never came out and said shite, and there were no reports of him causing any trouble. And it wouldn't be the smartest move in the world if he knew he was playing for a contract this season to all of a sudden start causing problems for the team, which leads me to believe that for the reward of millions of dollars, he would have handled everything the same way he always has, professionally.

It looks shitty, but I guess the FO was ready to dump him.

bad knees
quality depth
don't want to pay him
are all good reasons they were ready to move on w/o him. I'm ok with it.

He was by far the most overrated player on the team two years ago.

we got hosed... what a shitty trade
Unless they the Saints front office has a crystal ball & can predict that 3rd or 4th pick is a certified star, this trade is essentially giving away Brown. I am sorry, next to QB, the next most important position is OT, and you can never have enough quality OL's...

Like i said in the other thread, we traded away a Pro Bowl LT in order to move up 2 rounds in the draft.
Posted on 6/19/10 at 8:21 pm to LSUsaintsfanla
what would have been a fair trade, then?
Posted on 6/19/10 at 8:29 pm to EmperorGout
a guaranteed 3rd and possibly a second. and us not giving them shite... i know yalll bash on jb but he's a damn good LT... bushrod concerns me a lot... o do not think he is the answer

There is no organization in the NFL that's going to give a 2nd round pick for an OT coming off IR with one year left on his contract.
Marshall Faulk in the PRIME of his career was worth a second and a fifth. Brown isn't Wille Roaf, not even close.

Nobody is giving up a 2 and a 3 for a guy with injury problems coming off IR.

LTs are a lot more valuable than RBs.
