Absolutely

The NCAA was littered with all-pro DBs this year

It's like people just regurgitate ESPN cliches all day without even thinking about what they're saying

ETA- to me the trade would be ok, because you know what you're getting with butler. He's already proven himself at the NFL level whereas a draft pick is such a crapshoot

Here's a crazy stat:

Butler got his hands on the football on over 20% of his targets last year.

Hard to teach ball skills

For a trade. Would be happy with #32 and absolutely stoked if it's for #42. Every year all the experts predict guys that are going to be absolute studs in the NFL. Every year many of those guys become complete busts. This appears to be a CB heavy class, but it's not out of the realm of possiblities that only 1-2 live up to the hype. Give me the All-Pro in his prime.

I find it ridiculous that the same people who say "The Saints suck at drafting!!" also say "Don't trade away #32 for a proven All-Pro CB!! We need the pick!!" .. Get it together people.

Gilmore is irrelevant in regards to Butler being a #1 CB. The Patriots made their decision and we can only speculate as to why they did. Butler is widely regarded as a #1 CB. Many thought he was a Pro Bowl snub. PFF ranked him as the 4th best CB overall and the 3rd best in coverage in 2016.

I will say it again. CB isn't the biggest need for this team. The current CB's on the Saints are not bad. The biggest way to help this defense is pass rush, pass rush , pass rush. Even in the glory days of the "Dome Patrol" and a few years with Bum where the defense was top notch. The Saints CB's were average at best. You want to upgrade the pass D, then you effect the QB by putting guys in his face. You can have the corners in the league and they won't be worth a shite without a pass rush.

First off, having a #1 cover corner doesn't mean he has to match up with the best receiver. It also allows you to put him on the WR#2 while providing extra coverage and attention to the WR#1. It may also allow us to do the left/right corner system we've seen in the past

Yeah I get it. We could use Butler the same way the Patriots do. My point is that this division is full of large, physical receivers and shelling out CB1 money (shut-down corner money) for Butler may be unwise since his physical build is a natural disadvantage in this division.

He immediately had to have surgery for the Saints. Butler is healthy, and we have a secondary coach as our DC.

How about Asomugha for the Eagles? Or Jason David from a few years ago? My point still stands - players on other teams are not known commodities on your team.

10 years ago, and he was a value corner. He was never one of the best man2man guys in the NFL.

Man.....poor FA signings over the past few years have really diminished Saints fans' opinions on getting proven, top-tier players in their prime in favor of some crapshoot college player whom most of us have no clue who that player truly is unless we watch highlight films.

And with all that said the ONLY team that showed interest in him was the New Orleans saints.

Oh....well maybe it's because the Saints have been so inept in pass coverage over the past decade....or maybe it's because he was part of the Cooks trade.

Major back surgery at that. And then when he came back he fricked up his knee.

The problem here was we didn't do due diligence because we were in a rush to sign him first.

Butler hasn't had any major injuries in his nfl career. To compare them is bonkers.

A better comparison is Greer. That turned out great for us.

Or Fred Thomas in his prime. Or Greer. Or McKenzie. Or Lewis pre injury.

With what you're saying no one should ever get a CB ever.
