re: Our roster stinks on ice

We’re weak at WR, OT, OG, TE, LB, Safety, and we have good starters but not much depth at DT.

We desperately need an injection of talent from the draft. Otherwise, this could easily turn into a really long year for the Saints. Failed draft choices and unnecessary trades in previous drafts are starting to take a toll on the roster.

Do you have no concept of other teams' rosters?
Like Penning at 16
Love Jameson Williams at 19
Guess I'm cool with Corral at 49 with Jameis on a 2-yr deal
The "back when ESPN was good" sentiment is applicable when it's Stephen A Smith or Collin Cowherd, but don't bring that to a Bill Barnwell discussion. Barnwell provides thoughtful analytics insight to 90% of the stuff he writes. This is just a little football fan-fiction exercise. Have some fun.
This is a shite article. Doesn't even make an argument for why Mahomes is a better MVP candidate than Brees (or Gurley or Goff). It's just a bunch of quotes and MVP betting odds. What is the point of this?

That gif looks an awful lot like Corey White getting beat on cover 3. Not sure how it is attributable to Malcolm Jenkins.
But then we’d have to cheer for Golden Tate. I don’t want to do that.
"Helmet Stalker" was quick on the draw there.
Benson bought the Saints for $70.2 million in 1985. Now, the franchise is worth roughly $2B. If you find a better ROR than 28,000% in 30 years, I'd love to hear it.
I went to UGA with John Theus. Dude is a doofus.

re: Pass Interference Penalties

Posted by Costanza64 on 2/26/18 at 6:30 pm to
If it's a 15 yard penalty, a DB would interfere every time he's in a compromised position downfield. Don't give me a "that doesn't happen in college" argument. NFL players are 100x more savvy than college players. They'd figure it out and game the system.

Making PI reviewable seems like a logical solution to the current problem IMO.
Corey Coleman is 90% of a great WR. Unfortunately, his biggest weakness is that he can't catch the ball without breaking his hands. That's like having an incredibly gifted LB who can't figure out what's going on every play.
Yes. We certainly need more gang affiliated folks in New Orleans.
I'd only accept it if someone sneaks in and takes Bradley Chubb before 27.
If I had to guess, I'd say most players write some sort of cover letter to NFL teams. And by "players" I mean their agents.

It's so frickin TMZ to wait until the eve of the first round to drop this

re: The case against Derek Barnett

Derek Barnett played in the SEC East. That's basically outside the SEC.

What round should the Saints address the LB position?

This. Saints need more coverage LBs.
I've got the hots for Derek Rivers, but I don't think he'll make it to the third round.
It takes a lot longer to get in the stadium nowadays with all this security at the gates. I remember getting in line for the Seahawks game at 11:30 and didn't get through the doors until 12:15. That's just ridiculous.

re: Why Not Wait a Year for Butler?

because in a trade you sign him to an extended 5 year contract for $10-12m a year vs him hitting the open market where you are in a bidding war with all 31 other teams and to get him you are forced to offer him a $14-15m a year contract to get him to sign

Why do you think he'll take that 5 year extension with the Saints? It's not like he'd have time to establish roots here on a one year deal.
Fair enough. I guess I don't think Butler will take anything less than market value. Especially after getting bitch slapped by the Patriots with the whole Gilmore signing.

Why Not Wait a Year for Butler?

Posted by Costanza64 on 4/20/17 at 10:41 am
Why should the Saints spend a cheap rookie on a 4 or 5 year contract to get Butler one year early? Patriots aren't going to re-sign him next year as a UFA; they've already got Gilmore and Rowe. Why not get your cheap rookie at 32 or 42 and then get Butler next year? Is this all just myopic win-now bullshite?

With what you're saying no one should ever get a CB ever.

You're reaching a little bit

He's saying the saints should only get corners who are at least 6'2, can run a sub 4.4, have a wonderlic score higher than 2x's their jersey number, be under 25 years of age, and also they have to have a second toe that is no more than 2mm and no less than 4mm longer than their big toe (on both feet, having met this criteria on only one foot will result in being DQ'd from employment)

I could work with that

rashard robinson shut down mike evans for two years and he is an inch smaller than butler

No he's not
I'm pretty stoked to get a more in-depth look at Jameis
quote:

First off, having a #1 cover corner doesn't mean he has to match up with the best receiver. It also allows you to put him on the WR#2 while providing extra coverage and attention to the WR#1. It may also allow us to do the left/right corner system we've seen in the past

Yeah I get it. We could use Butler the same way the Patriots do. My point is that this division is full of large, physical receivers and shelling out CB1 money (shut-down corner money) for Butler may be unwise since his physical build is a natural disadvantage in this division.

quote:

He immediately had to have surgery for the Saints. Butler is healthy, and we have a secondary coach as our DC.

How about Asomugha for the Eagles? Or Jason David from a few years ago? My point still stands - players on other teams are not known commodities on your team.
