Off the top of my head I think the following guys have better physical attributes. total package of strength, speed, arm strength, quickness:

Vick

I'll give you Vick. There's nothing physically he can't do (except throw a consistently accurate spiral)

quote:

Young

Definitely gets the edge in overall athleticism but his arm strength is embarrassing

quote:

Cutler

Has a better arm but can barely move. Think it's probably a draw for overall athleticism

quote:

Rodgers

Very good call. Rodgers is crazy athletic and I give him the nod over Brees

quote:

Stafford

Again he's got a cannon but he can't move at all and no way could he dunk at 6 feet

quote:

Sanchez

No offense but why? Because you saw him in a GQ photo shoot and he looked good? He can move well but Brees has him in everything else

In other words, it's a silly point to say Drew Brees' athletic skills "don't compare" to most of those guys, or anywhere close to the majority of NFL QBs.

Pretty much sums it up. It's almost as bad as people saying all black QBs get by off their physical talents alone.

That's pretty much true though. Maybe Warren Moon is an exception.

He is simply the most accurate QB I've ever seen. It makes up for any deficits he may have. Simply put, you better have pressure on him, or he will beat you.

Cutler can really move. rushed for over 1200 yards at vandy, about 500 his senior year. Put up very good combine numbers, is explosive for a QB, and strong as on ox. He is just a retard. He is a really, really good athlete for the QB position, much better than brees.

again, strong as an ox and good speed. Check his combine numbers. I am assuming you can see their that Stafford and Cutler will surprise you when compared to Brees. Bigger man with equal and better numbers = better athlete....but not better QB.

being mexican must count for something?

eta: plus, these guys have youth on their side. 7 years ago Brees might have been more athletic than Stafford. But right now, these guys are more athletic.

I'm going to wipe away tears while El Tigre feverishly foments a rhetorical angle to declare victory and extricate himself from the thread

wrong. Brees went 4.83 at the combine. The number you posted was from an on-campus workout...the kinds where Charles Scott runs in the high 4.4 range.

So, however you slice it, he's either faster or statistically indistinguishable in the footspeed department from those two far superior physical specimens? Got it.

when a bigger man has equal or better measurables than a smaller man, the bigger man is viewed as the better athlete.

why is that a hard concept? it's true.

so those other guys are stronger, faster, and have better arms. got it?

you said this:

so let's go by combine numbers then!

Cutler 4.77
Brees 4.83
Stafford 4.84

At the very least they are comparable, and needless to say you were preaching that someone needed to look at the numbers when you clearly had not.

ok, read the last sentence where you quoted me.

now, do the bigger guys not have about eaual or better numbers than Brees in speed, strength, etc? Also, like i also already said Brees is further away from his combine days than these other guys too. After 3-4 years in the NFL your body starts losing some pop and you better use your smarts. Brees does.

eta: and Stafford ran a 4.81 at the combine. Are you just pulling the first number you see that helps your cause without understanding what it is?

and of course Brees is a good athlete....he's a great NFL player. The level of athleticism of these guys are amazing. But, relative to other QB's he is not at or near the top in physical attributes. When it comes to being a great QB, he is.

On what are you basing the "better arm" assesment with regard to those two guys? I really haven't seen it. Definitely nothing glaring.

If anything, Cutler sort of strikes me as awkward and gawky.

The only physical attribute Brees doesn't possess is height. That's pretty much it.

I just think it's a silly mindset to assume because a QB is a 6 ft white guy, he's automatically some sort of "gritty over-achiever

I think it is insulting to view Brees as an "overachiever". He is very athletic.
