That paired with some questionable play calling made for a painful head-scratching year.

CAnt agree that it was the playcalling. Everyone sees it different though.

eta as far as the topic of trading them, id be shocked if anyone traded for any of these guys. Maybe Lance Moore. The other 2 are dime-a-dozen type players at this point in their careers.

I would like to see them retain Pierre. frick Mark INgram

The situational play calling was pretty bad.......one that come to mind is 3rd and short and we run a reverse with a 3rd string tight end

We are just in need of younger, more explosive guys. I love all these guys and hate to see them go but if they have to in order to open up room for new guys I understand it. We all knew this time would come eventually.

The weekly "why can't you run it more" and the before mentioned endless screen passes is what I'm mainly referring to. But again, the shotty O-line play definitely influenced CSP's confidence in the run.

It was actually on 4th down, which makes it even worse.

Man, that was an absurd decision.

Sometimes, I wish Loomis would take over the play-calling.
I mean, what can't the guy do, right?

Hopefully the Armstead-era playcalling is a reflection of what we see next year. And I think we really need someone on the outside that scares opponents. Colston did play well down the stretch but I'm still worried about him being close to done.

Also, I don't know if it's just me.
But didn't PT seem to start to burn out towards the end of the last season?

Moore....meh. Both PT and Sproles? That's kind of interesting....but maybe it's just to possibly ship one or the other, and not both. You know what though, for my part, while I love most of these guys we've moved and are considering moving, I like that we are trying to make some moves to get younger and/or better.....even at the expense of some mainstays.

I'm with you on this. Said it before. One or the other would be a cap casualty, but not both. They have served us well, but it's time to get younger and cheaper. I'll tell you what though. If one or both get moved or cut, I wouldn't be surprised if McCluster wasn't the target during free agency. If we luck out and move one for a pick It also wouldn't surprise me if we use said pick on a RB in the draft.

Let's play a little What If.

What if Sprolesy PT, Moore are all cut, no trades. And what if Jimmy holds out, not traded, no 2 first rounders, no trade bait, no compensation for the tag, nothing. So what if all 4 leave in the same off-season. Who's going to fill their roles? So I guess my point is: I guess there's a fine line between getting younger and cheaper and losing your core, and between being a cap strapped competitive team versus a cap happy mediocre team.

2.1ypc over his last 5 games. They were against a pretty ridiculous stretch of defenses, though (Seattle, Carolina x 2, St. Louis, TB).

Absolutely. Ingram and Robinson both looked significantly better at the end of the season.

I'll definitely hate to see PT go a little more than Moore and Sproles. PT has been such a dependable do it all back for us since he came into the league. He's super tough and never fumbles. However, his best days are behind him so it's not surprising he's being shopped around.

Yeah, but the other RB's didn't have that kind of trouble.

Not an excuse for them, but we were stupid predictable with the run last year.

Much of some the questionable play calling especially the screens were a direct result of the receivers not being able to get open in similar previous situations.

The offensive line certainly did have their issues at times but they have received some unjust criticism because they too were victimized by the lack of separation by the receiving corps. Numerous times on short dropback, quick throws receivers sometimes ran incorrect routes or poor routes that in return caused Drew to hold on the ball. These quick hit passing plays are only designed to blocked for only 2-3 seconds. Once the timing is off on the play it's gonna lead to either a throw away by Brees or a sack.

Perhaps a perfect storm.
Play calling sometimes to predictable.
Players getting older and a bit slower.
Worst up and down o-line play in years.
And also that 5 game stretch against the best of defences someone posted ending with Philly and Seattle on the road in the playoffs.
And as tough as all that was we still ranked in the top 5 in most off categories.

I can definitely agree with that assessment but the biggest problems on the road, offensively were not being to convert on 3rd down nor could they cash in more with touchdowns in the redzone.

In the silence of the dome, the offense can win & take advantage of making adjustments at the LOS. On the road, that becomes difficult. On the road, is where you see the need to have receivers who can physically beat their opponent & make plays at crucial moments.
