davis is good value for 14 (at this point in the process)

if you're thinking about beanie wells or percy harvin, you might as well trade down and pick derrick williams 10-2o picks later
I think Wells is suspect. That guy is always hurt. I hate this pick for the Saints. IMO trade out of this spot.

according to just about everyone, we have an agreement in place, but we're waiting to save our 1st rounder

he's a CB/FS prospect
i'm actually wishing we had a 2nd to target pegues now, but davis would be good

I wish the Saints could figure it out then, they have one good one in the last 15 years. Sammy Knight

I think you answered your question with your 1st sentence

Because Harvin grades out as a low first round prospect and there are plenty of mid-late first round defensive prospects that will make more sense at 14.
If Harvin ultimately grades out on the Saints board this way, then that's correct. However, nobody on here is going to have access to the Saints' draft board and that's really the only one that matters. Kiper obviously has him rated higher than that and the evaluations are far from over. For some reason, you seemed to take the post as one that is bashing Payton. That's not the case and I also did not assert that they'd definitely take Harvin. I still stand by the statement that I wouldn't be surprised to see them grab someone like Harvin (again, depending on their board) over a defensive player. They need defense, but I don't think they'll hesitate to take BPA if it's an offensive playmaker. And that's not necessarily a bad thing to do.

If they think Knowshon will be there for the Saints, the for the love of god trade Reggie for a CB and draft that kid.

Kiper is correct for a change: We need the best available CB at 14.
Problem is, #14 is a value pick. You get into the the problem of drafting someone like Alex Molden (with 11)......that's not good value. IMO, S is the most needed position, not CB. Good safety play, and the Saints have some of the worst safety play in the league, can help this defense immediately. A rookie CB, unless he is a f'en monster, can't.
I don't think there is a good enough CB or S available to fit the value at 14. Trade that pick, get 2 2nd rounders and get the best available player at S, CB, OL or RB with both of those picks.
All of this is mute if you can get Harvin at 14. If Harvin is there take him.....but I'm 99.999999% sure Harvin ain't gonna be there at 14.

I am all for trading down and getting more picks. But if they were to take Davis, I actually like the kid. I think I also read somewhere that he played some safety in college.

Are you fricking stupid is the question Lester Earl?

Did you bother to look at Vernon Davis's PRODUCTIVITY and CHARACTER??? What about the 49ers eating his 5 year 25 million dollar contract???
You act like the is no connection between Vontae and Vernon Davis? They are fricking brothers so yea people may want to be concerned about taking the 14th pick on this kid. I doubt the 49ers would?

G Williams says the the most important part of a def is the MLB, DTs, and Safety positions...look for us to get the best Safety that fits his scheme..

Jose Canseco and Ozzie Canseco were twins. Jeremy Giambi and Jason Giambi are brothers. Greg Maddux and Mike Maddux are brothers. What the hell is your point?

I made my point. You might not agree with it but its been made. Productivity, character, desire, and a competitive edge are lost sometimes when a player gets their money. It obvious, its happened with Vernon Davis. When its that fricking obvious you might think twice about picking his brother. If you draft him and he turns out like his brother then you cant say you didnt see it coming. The pick has too much down side is all. How is management going to defend this pick if he is a bust 2-3 years from now?

the same way they'd defend any other bust?

perhaps vernon davis wasn't the prospect everyone thought he was?

Saints need to trade out of this pick is all. They also need to make some cap room and target some safeties and linebackers. We are not that far away from being a really good team.

davis is a FS prospect as well as a CB prospect
we only need 1 LB, a WLB
vilma is elite in the middle and fujita is a solid SLB
really this D needs a FS, WLB, and maybe another CB. that should be it
