1. Up by 28 points at half should Brees even play anymore?
No, let him play.
2. Should they start with Bell and Hamilton and only insert
Reggie if needed?
Start Bell and Hamilton, but insert Bush in a normal rotation
to give him some reps.
3. I haven't watched the CBs close enough. Are they left and
right like Gibbs or do they flip? Just wondering about the
match-up with Johnson.
I didn't pay attention to that either.
4. Who returns kickoffs? Punts?
Kickoffs will probably be Harper and Meachem. Punts will be
Moore or Bush.
5. What single thing are you looking forward to seeing the most?
The Saints win by a score of 56-0 more, which would mean a
completely dominating performance to hopefully shut-up any
Saintards and ESPN commentators.
(Although both would probably just attribute it to the Lions
being that bad).

bump for the CB question.
10pts for who has the answer. In our new defensive scheme do the corners man a left and right position (as had been with Gibbs) or do they move with who they are covering? What's the % on how this works in the NFL? I think in more schemes the CBs flip than stay L & R.
--------------------
JUST A GUESS: Some early blitzes and disruption, control of the game, then more blitzes but not many new looks to them. Save the big bang crazy arse havoc blitzes for McNabb to cope with.

in all probability he'll sit. If it was a tough must win playoffs hinging on it game it would be different. I think they should go light with Reggie as well. Give him some touches but let him get to 101% for the Igggles. A stand up performance with Bell/Hamilton getting 100+ yds would go a long ways towards becoming an offense on an other worldly scale.

talked about Lions QB facing the new GW Havoc defense. What about the Lions D?
Improved retread corners Anthony Henry from Dallas & Philip Buchannon TB last year have seen Brees before. Their SS Kalvin Pearson (who?) was the team defensive MVP... for the 0-16 version. My favorite is a guy I liked in the draft. FS Louis Delmas. This where I think we'll see a true NFL education class conducted Dr. Brees. Prediction: 3 wide out plays that Henderson and/or Meachem burns the rookie long on.

2008 Lions game review:
The stats were as lopsided as the final score, but one in particular stood out. The Saints were a remarkable 11-of-12 on third down, setting the stage for their dominance in every other offensive category.
Lions rookie Kevin Smith rushed for 111 yards, his second-highest total this season. Looking for a big change here.
Receiving Rec Yds Avg TDs
C. Johnson 4 64 16 0
-would take that again in a heartbeat
Detroit scored its only points on Kevin Smith's 1-yard run early in the second quarter after the Saints bailed out the Lions with a pass-interference penalty on fourth down.
By the end of the first quarter, the score was 14-0. By halftime, it was 28-7. The Saints scored touchdowns on their first six possessions.
From the sideline, Saints tackle Zach Strief said he could hear Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky bark out plays while under center.
"I could hear the quarterback's full cadence, checks . . . you could hear everything," Strief said.
And this was on the Lions' first series.
Deuce McAllister compared the scene to the Hurricane Katrina season, when the Saints toiled on futilely before somber crowds at half-filled Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.
The atmosphere reminded Jeff Charleston of his days at Western Oregon University, a Division II school in Monmouth, Ore., that routinely drew about 2,000 fans to home games at McArthur Field.
Fujita said linebacker Troy Evans likened the atmosphere, appropriately enough, to a morgue.
"A couple of our guys said our practices are louder," fullback Mike Karney said.
It got so ugly fans mockingly in the half-empty stadium chanted "Jo-ey! Jo-ey!" in reference to New Orleans' third-string quarterback Joey Harrington,
One fan wore a T-shirt that read: "Rebuilding since 1957."

Gregg Williams no longer trembling in fear not knowing...
Stafford to start
LINK
and he thought the SEC was tough

NFP:
The guess here is Williams would have gone blitz heavy vs. Culpepper, just like he will vs. Stafford.

I have a feeling this game will be close. Detroit will be very fired up to start a new season.

I love this article...
'Stafford will be allowed to make rookie mistakes'
"The one thing I communicated to him, and I'd say that to any quarterback that plays for us, don't think you're going to be yanked the first time you throw an interception. That's not going to be our M.O.,'' Schwartz said.

----err, how bout #2, 3, 4... ?

have been reading Lions boards and Detroit based stories. Found my favorite summary-
Week One: The Lions travel to New Orleans. The Lions have a rookie QB starting on the road. The Lions have virtually no pass rush. The Lions have a banged up starting secondary. The Saints have Drew Brees and six seconds in the pocket. Game over.
