I agree we were a kicker and maybe some better play calling away from the playoffs.

Also, we suck in bad weather. Do whatever it takes to get Mays or another killer safety and we'll be a totally different team.

Last year and this year, name one play, just one, where he agressively attacked the play and tackled a runner for a loss. It doesn't happen. The dude is adequate at best. I'm not saying its necessary, it just has to be if we want to get to an elite def.

Scott Fujita has 75 tackles, 6 for loss, 1 forced fumble, and 2 interceptions.

And he missed playingtime.

Like I said earlier, I don't get it. he's fine

I don't see Fujita as a problem either.
I see our power running game a double major problem. Deuce will never be himself again. Until we get someone to fill that void we're toast. (and PLEASE don't even attempt to ley on me that Pierre Thomas is the answer He's no more than a 3rd stringer)

They need to trade Brees and Bush for defensive help. Maybe unload Meachem and Devery Henderson also.

Trade Brees??? How is trading the best QB the Saints have ever had is going to help? Every NFL teams strives to have a "franchise" QB that the team can be built around. We have that QB, now we have to do a better job of building the team. You don't make your team stronger by trading away your best player.

You trade Brees because he will not re-sign in a couple of years when his contract is up. The Saints don't re-sign FAs, so they need to get something for him now before they lose out completely. Brees would fit in nicely with Dallas and you might get some decent defensive players in exchange.

so what exactly is dallas going to do with their "other" franchise qb that they recently paid??

Why would brees not resign here? All indications are that he is pretty loyal to the city and team. If we gave him a fair deal I think he'd definitely resign.

He still has a year left in college...

I think Mays from USC or that Curry from Wake Forest could be taken in the first round and be starters as rookies. Saints should go after a top of the line CB because our lack of depth this year KILLED us and a solid defensive end might be a decent investment because Grant and Smith both have huge contracts now and could use some new motivation to produce at the level expected of them.

Signed the two highest paid guys on our roster (Smith and Grant).

I'm 90% sure Brees will finish his career here.

It was depth that killed us and you fix that by signing a good NB/4th CB. Not by paying out the arse for a CB that will only force Porter who looked really good to the bench.

I don't think Smith or Grant is tradeable, but if someone interested then moving one of the two would be great.

he best cb in the world isnt crap without a safety that is in the right zip code, well maybe the best but...

also, there is absoulely zero chance that brees leave the saints while payton is here. I'd peg chances of him re signing at about 130%. Talk about trading him is probably less smart than standing in the middle of a freeway.

If you disagree, I'll be happy to make a bet.

here is what i think please respond if you want. first fire Gibbs. Second trade these guys away from our team bush and jason david and our first round pick to the bengals to move up in the draft i pretty sure the bengals would go for this deal and probly throw in a second rounder. Cuase they are said to draft a running back to begin with. If this happens we draft the corner from ohio state malcolm jenkins with the bengals pick. And if we aquire the second rounder from the bengals we draft De Tyson Jenkins from Lsu he should slip to the first couple of picks in the second round and he is a beast. In free agent market get brian Dawkins and mike brown from the bears and maurice morris very underrated power back. Resign vilma . We need to trade will smith maybe to the patriots for there first round pick yes i said patriots cause they really dont need a first rounder and are said to need a de and pretty stack anyway and maybe get a third rounder from them as well. With the pats pick we draft Curry from wake or Clint sintom from Virginia. That should take care of all of our problems and free up dead weight. And maybe with the seventh round we get another sleeping playmaker like we always do. With all this we would be stacked. The corner spot would be stacked too cause brown, porter, and mckenzie and the rookie jenkins . Move gay to saftey spot and we would have dawkins.

You honestly think the bengals are going to give up a high 1st and a high 2nd round pick for a punt returner, a below average nickle back and a mid first round pick? This isnt madden dude.

nevermind I just read the rest of your post...you REALLY DO think this could happen.

I think it is important to look at the success of other teams and that strategies that their GMs used to get where they are now (i.e. NY Giants). Here are some of my suggestions for the Saints.

QB: Sign Patrick Ramsey (Brunell and Palko are not the answer if something happens to Drew.)

HB: Sign Derrick Ward, Maurice Morris or DeShaun Foster (Create a RB by Cmte with Bush and Thomas) or possibly keep Mike Bell.

WR: resign Moore and Henderson (Meachem goes on the trade block to see if he can be moved)

OT: Sign Jordan Gross or Marvel Smith (move Brown back to his natural position of RT and see if he can get back to Pro Bowl form)

OG: re-sign Evans

C: Sign Jason Brown (4 star C but not as expensive as Birk or Saturday)

DE: Already enough $ spent between Grant and Smith along with McCray

DT: With Ellis and co. no need to spend more

OLB: Sign Bart Scott, however if the price is too high or he is unwilling to sign with the Saints, go after a guy such as Michael Boley, Leroy Hill or Angelo Crowell.

MLB: re-sign Vilma at 12:01 am when free agency period starts.

CB: Sign Dunta Robinson or Deltha 0'Neal/Phillip Buchanon (cheaper alternatives) put with Porter/MM/Gay/David should be ok.

S: Sign Jermaine Phillips or Oshiomogho Atogwe or Dawan Landry.

K: Possibly re-sign Garrett Hartley or Sign Mike Nugent, Shayne Graham, Rob Bironas or John Kasay.

P: Sign Shane Lechler or Craig Hentrich

DRAFT

1st Round: S Taylor Mays, S William Moore, ILB Ray Maualuga, ILB James Laurinaitis

Brees loves living and playing in New Orleans, he realizes he is the franchise so he will re-sign, trading him would destroy the chances of success in the immediate future.
