The strong safety shouldn't be judged only on pass coverage. If they were better in coverage, they'd be a free safety.

True, but I was responding to people claiming he was tops in coverage for Strong Safeties by putting up that idiotic stat.
He's below average to average for a starting strong safety in coverage and in Williams' defense the strong safety is expected to be covering.
The times Harper blew at coverage was when he was required to give help coverage, not covering 1 on 1.
I think Harper is a decent strong safety, but the Saint's severely overpaid for him.

A lof of people out there think Harper is trash from the Seattle game. Sorry to say but he is a good player and belongs on our DEF. Great deal to grab him.

I would have to disagree with this statement. I think he did get a little overpaid. I would put him at 5, maybe 6m a year. But the other SSs out there weren't really viable replacements and the Weddle deal had to have jacked the price of other safeties up.

the fact is, Harper was a good option compared to what else was out there on the market.
We'll see if he makes it through the entirety of this deal. I have a feeling it's backloaded.

Even if it is backloaded, the Saints are still on the hook for $18 million (guaranteed), so we'll see how it plays out.
I am glad they retained him. Despite his mediocre coverage skills, he's a solid strong safety and knows the system. Overpaid, but still a solid starter.

He's worth 5 mil/year. 2 mil more is severely overpaying? Just checking. It's totally fine if you think it is. I agree he got a fat contract and we overpaid him. But id rather be forced to pay him a few more mil than have a ST player back there.
Veteran leader who knows the system and can tackle. GW didn't want to have to learn a new guy back there who would prolly be a downgrade at that.

Ok but he has had games that he under performed and to say that he hasn't is just dumb. Look brees deserves every penny he gets and more but he has had bad games and so has every player in the league and to base a guy's skills from one bad game is ridiculous
