Have people forgotten that a large amount of points were scored by our Defence last year? It may not be their role to score but last year it wasn't unusual for the D to score a TD or two in a game.

Fast starts fueled the defense which got the ball back on short fields and further fueled the offense.

The Saints have had those opportunities this year to get out to big leads and force the other teams to play from behind.

The Saints got out to a 7-0 lead against the Vikings, 9-0 lead against the 49ers, 7-0 lead against the Falcons, 7-0 lead against the Panthers and a 10-0 lead against the Cardinals. In EACH of those games, the Saints had opportunities to add to those leads and really force the other team to have to play from behind.

The problem has been, when in those positions, driving to add to the lead, they have been turning the ball over. They did it twice against Atlanta, twice against Carolina and also did it against the Cardinals. They haven't been able to extend those leads to 14-0 and 17-0 type leads, like they did last year. Being able to do that really puts the other team in a hole and forces them to come out of their game plan, which in turn, really plays into the hands of the defense.

People have been critical of the offense and the lack of "big" plays, but they actually have done a decent jobs of taking what the defense gives them and moving down the field. They just haven't been able to convert in the red zone and have had turn overs, which has really hurt them. If they can do a better job of converting in the red zone and erase the turn overs, they actually have a good shot of beating these teams by a pretty wide margin, without the big plays. They have had opportunities to do just that in each of their games, but haven't succeeded.

Well then you're wrong...

You're one of "those" guys who thinks his OPINION is correct and mine is wrong. "Those" guys are always real awesome and objective.

You really don't think that a team gets a little more fired up when playing a division foe or highly respected/ranked team as opposed to say...Buffalo or Detroit(old Detroit)? You don't believe that they give a little extra effort or play with a little more intensity when playing the reigning Super Bowl champs?

No, I am fairly certain that does not apply to an entire TEAM, as you said.

There may be individual players who fit your criteria, but if that's the case, they're probably not very good players. Good players will get up for EVERY game, regardless of who they are playing.

Reggie Bush, the Saints' multi-dimensional running back/receiver, who earns $8M a year, broke his leg ag. the Niners but fortunately, will be back in the lineup later in the season. Pierre Thomas, the other talented Saints' running back, is injured as well, and is expected back in the lineup in the future. Their replacements are an undrafted free agent and a free agent no other team wanted. I suggest you consider the remote possibility that their absence from the lineup at present might, just might, affect the Saints' offensive performance.

Please don't forget, we're also missing the third string HB, Mr. Hamilton. A lot of people forget that. We're literally missing our entire depth chart of running backs.

true. However, as pointed above this post, we're actually losing the turnover battle, and that's never good in the NFL or any other level of football.

Yeah, it really isn't complicated. Bush and Thomas are out. They'll be back. Until they're back, the Saints's offense won't be as productive. For those bandwagon fans who don't understand this, consult your "Football for Dummies" book, chapter 7, "How the Running Game Sets Up the Passing Game."

Correct.

they're probably not very good players

Just gonna throw a name out there...Randy Moss. Is he not a good player? Is he "up" for EVERY game? Does the performance of such players, whether they are "up" or "down" not affect the rest of the team and thus factor in to the outcome of a game?
