Yeah X-rays are cheaper. But seriously we had a radiologist lecture us one day. It's amazing what they can see on an xray that a normal person can't.

Xray is the first thing many times because of expense. With the NFL that's probably a moot point.
Like a said a good doc can see other things messed up besides just bone on an xray.

I'd say they could make a fairly accurate guess as to what's going on, but no one gets diagnosed with ligament damage on an xray. You can see how bone is misplaced, etc., but you can't say anything definite about ligament damage based on just plain film, as far as I know. Any radiologists feel free to correct me.

No I realize that. Just saying that a good radiologist can say "oh crap that's not right".
And then say ok let's go ahead and do an MRI.
