I still laugh thinking about Sid in Lakeshore's call to Buddy after the playoff loss to the Eagles after the 92 season.

One time a guy called up BD after a Saints loss, and they started arguing about whatever...eventually Buddy told him, "...because you're a squirrel and you don't know what the hell you're talkin' about!"

Silence for a few seconds, and then Buddy lamented, "These people, they come out the trees."

I loved that guy...I couldn't miss a show after the games. They were incredibly entertaining and therapeutic. For some reason, at the moment I recall two call in's to the Point After Show.

The first one (paraphrasing):

Caller (in a yat voice): Hey Buddy. Somethin's been bothering me real bad. You know that Andre Rison player?

Buddy: Yeah, wider receiver for the Falcons.

Caller: Yeah. That guy. Can you help me out here...I can't tell if Andre Rison Japanese or Chinese?

Buddy: Augh, come on...da da squirrels are out early tonight.

The second one (paraphrasing):

Caller (in yat voice): Hey Buddy, did you see that player blow out his knee in the game?

Buddy: Yeah, the preliminary indications aren't promising. We'll know more tomorrow after the MRI.

Caller: I tell ya Buddy, it looked pretty bad from where I was sitting and I sit in the Terrace level at the 10 yard line. After the player was helped to the sideline you could see his knee grow from all the way up were I was. It grew big.

Buddy: Knee grow...hey, wait a minute. Alright, alright...next caller...

Speaking of him. Does anyone else remember he was dating that crazy chick from TLC, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes? At some point, he broke up with her and she went and burned his house to the ground. Lopes got killed in a single car accident in 2002.

How about Buddy D referring to Kenny "The Snake" Stabler as "Steak Snabler."

Wayne Mack a/k/a The Great MacNut. He and "Bronco" Bruce Miller also used to do the radio broadcasts for the Tulane games.

Back then after the Saints lost, often after blowing big leads, that is all you had to look forward too. They were really fun to listen too. I hope they got to see the Saints superbowl, whether in heaven or hell or in between. Even the devil would have to give you that man.

This was back in the days when Hap and Buddy would often call the post game show What's The Point?

I never got to meet Buddy but was fortunate enough to have a chance to get to know both Hap and Wayne Mack. Both were great old school guys, mostly gruff but capable of being hysterically funny when they wanted to be. Also, if you loved listening to great behind the scenes sports stories, they had tons of them.

As great as it was to be back home for the Super bowl and to enjoy all the madness, one thought stays with me. I remember listening to WWL after the game and thinking what I wouldn't give for one last post game show tonight with both Buddy and Hap.

Greatest line ever spoken on radio. Hap after the Saints lost to Tampa bay and gave that franchise its first regular season victory: "To the winnas, go the victories."
