naw
ingram "slipped" b/c RBs just don't go high anymore. it's not a value position

So which running back is the odd man out?
Posted on 5/1/11 at 11:19 am to xraytech
i think we keep ingram, thomas, and ivory this year
bush is up in the air. that situation just comes down to how much value (in terms of saoary) that bush seems himself worth

As a Saints fan I am glad your not working in the Saints front office. Because in reality you don't know jackshit about football. If you were GM, they never would have signed Drew Brees.

You're almost there. Keep using ingram to get you to 200k.

NONE OF THEM. How many times do you people have to be told that we need every bit of RB depth we can get.

So who is getting cut then? Cause unless adding roster spots is part of the new CBA, we have to make room somehow for the new guys

if we have the bad luck with injuries again, we will. if we don't have a bad run of injuries, we don't need 3 RBs of that caliber

I didn't stutter, you heard me. All you do is go against the tide of popular opinion to bring attention to yourself. If they had waited and drafted leshoure you would be saying that they should have gotten Ingram. Ingram fits in perfectly for the Saints. I stand by my previous statement. Sean Peyton and Mickey Loomis built what was a shitty franchise into a world champion. I tend to believe that they know just a little bit more about evaluating talent and the value of that talent than some over opinionated internet poster does.

when i'm negative, my voice is just heard louder and there is more arguing b/c it's a negative opinion
there is a bias that is created
i pimped the brees signing big time, and many on this board were leery of him and wanted to draft leinart

Alex Brown is gone for Cameron Jordan.
Ladell Betts, Julius Jones, and that other Bell dude we will no longer need.
Ingram, Thomas, Ivory and Bush will be our backs with Hamilton on the PS.
Usama Young or Leigh Torrence can GTFO
And say byebye to Danny Clark and/or Jolann Dunbar.
That solves our top picks right there.

And the only response I will say to this is that they all really have different skill sets. We're going to use every single on of them on a regular basis. It's the same way with insurance. I'd rather have it then sitting there being sorry we're back down to no-names running the ball for us.
Posted on 5/1/11 at 11:54 am to Brettesaurus Rex
shite let's just have 6 capable RBs on our roster to make sure we have insurance !!!!

Ok, now it's just starting to seem like you're trying to be devil's advocate here.
Did you really not see how decimated our backfield was last year? Do you know how to learn from a mistake? There was no RB I'd rather take than Ingram and everyone knew we were going to take one.
EVERY ONE OF OUR RB'S HAS A DIFFERENT SKILL SET. Do you not understand that? Take Reggie out b/c he isn't even really used mostly as a RB. So we have Thomas who is quite injury prone along with Ivory who hasn't ever in his career been consistently healthy.
Our entire backfield has something different to bring to the table. It's not like we have 4 Pierre Thomas'
I'm really still trying to figure out what you're point is? Would you have rather drafted another position or something?

no, i was just being silly to show how that argument is absurd

that was an outlier
that situation was due to bad luck/injuries and not talent at RB
you don't build your franchise trying to avoid bad luck and outlier seasons

they really don't. they're all 4.6 guys with power, receiving ability for short passes, and not much gamebreaking. good vision, burst, and balance.

i'd have rather signed a guy like ben jarvis green ellis, who is the same type of back and a proven NFL RB, for cheap and used our draft picks on more valuable postiions

While the amount of injuries might be, we haven't gone a full season without experiencing injuries.
quote:
they really don't
Bush - hardly ever used to tote the rock. slot receiver ish type who runs to the outside when he does.
Ivory - bowling ball runner who fights for every yard he can get. while a beast who barely goes down on first contact, he didn't last longer than 4 games without being hurt and had some issues holding on to the ball.
Thomas - probably our most complete back (before Ingram) who can run through the tackles, great on the screen (im convinced this play alone makes thomas worthy of a roster spot), and run a bit to the outside, he just can't seem to stay healthy either.
Now insert Ingram. He's the almost every down back we have been missing who's going to fight for the yards but is also great out of the backfield. He was easily the best RB of this class. He only missed 2 games in his career at Bama even though he could have played in those but it wasn't necessary. He played in the toughest conference in college football against some the best run D's int the country.

If the front office felt that the other backs were just as good, I really don't think they would have traded up for Ingram. There's a reason Ingram went first. And honestly, we didn't need more draft picks. We got awesome players and great value all for spots with need. I'd much rather quality over quantity my brotha.
And to top it off, what kept us from repeating last year besides pass rush which we addressed before Ingram in the draft?
A consistent rush attack. We now have a practical guarantee of that.
I see a big run this year out of this team.

Who doesn't stay healthy. Thomas is more finesse to me. Ingram's more of a bruiser.
